Just changed some things around on the fixie. The bar end caps were today's arts n' crafts project. Big changes are front + rear Mafac Racer centerpulls, Bontrager Jones CX tires, 38x16 gearing, a riser bar off a recumbent flipped upside down and some cheap Tektro levers. Very comfortable setup. Blast to ride around town, and surprisingly a good gear (not too low).

Nice. You can nickname it sweet bean.

Thanks. Its name is Sir Whimford Gumphrey though.

Dude, I'm pretty sure they're called aDzuki beans, or some such nonsense. I'm pretty sure a D is in involved, though.

I do like the thought, though.

Retem 10-11-06 01:11 AM

no sure it is the azuki bean or as we know it the sweet red bean found in daifuku and other japanese goodies

Hm I had no idea that Azuki actually meant something. I just always assumed it was an importer trying to cash in on the Japanese bike fever of the 70's/80's.

I owned an Azuki Gran Tourer
bought new in '72
great bike boom, Japanese bike
solid. toured on it and primary trans for years
got nicked later

nice bike man. speaking of japanese bikes...

my girlfriends dad dumpstered a nakamichi, her brother wrecked it(see thread "sexy curves: a philly pothole story") and i fixed it and converted it for him. i'm in the final stages right now... finding which bars he prefers and running a brake on it.

right now i'm running aorund town on it making sure everything is working properly.

We always pronounced it aduki in the hippy restaurants where I worked. BUt it's spelled adzuki. They are pretty little beans, but I like your bike better.

gokiburi 10-11-06 09:34 AM

popular in chinese cuisine as well. cool name for a bike.

pigmode 10-11-06 09:56 AM

Please please please lets not argue a point that is moot because we do not know the foreign language therefore not knowing foreign words....

I never meant to imply that hippies knew anything about how to pronounce anything in Japanese, but for anyone who cares Google turned up this gem http://www.adzuki.com/

Yeah they kinda remind me of Noah's Arcs. I love the Mafacs! One day I'll find the right bike to run a pair of those.

Seriously, the bars are incredible. They are off a Bianchi cruiser or a recumbent, not sure which. About 22-23" wide I'd guess and perfect backsweep and just enough drop.
