the Fremont is specifically the Alex Solo *track* wheelset.
i'd think the Pista would have that same specification, but who knows and since the San Jose is spaced at 130mm instead of 120 it's totally feasible that they have a different hubset than the Pista/Fremont |

I ordered a San Jose to use as a commuter/beer run bike. I would like some recommendations for good fenders, racks, and what upgrades are needed. Yes, I did do the Search and some new salmon Kool Stop brake pads are also on the way.
How's that saddle? Anyone keep it long enough to know if it is worth keeping? How are the wheels holding up? Tires? |
I have been using the Bianchi San Jose for about 3 months for my everyday commuting (about 10-15 miles/day). Earlier in the thread, I explained and showed pictures in regard to making the bike into a mullet (disc front, carbon fork, Avid’s with Kool stops in the rear) and fixed (built rear wheel with flip/flop hub). I recently replaced the stock bars with bullhorns and cane creek TT levers.
So, the only stock parts that I can comment on are the cranks/BB, the frame, and yes, the seat. I notice no flex in cranks/BB or frame, and I have had no problems with creaking from the BB. Despite the new fork, I used the original headset. After a few rides in the rain/mud, I noticed that the headset no longer felt smooth; I opened it up, cleaned off the bearings and races, and relubricated everything. The grinding feeling is gone. The stock seat is still on the bike, and that is my only real complaint. I am not going to comment on the faux leopard skin; the comfort of the saddle leaves much to be desired. I typically ride without appropriate cycling attire. After 5-10 miles with wearing jeans or shorts, my bum begins to ache. Once I open the bike up to apply frame saver, the stock seat is history. Overall, I have no regrets and have enjoyed the upgrades (carbon fork, front disc brake, bullhorns, fixed). JAH |

That said, the San Jose that I almost ended up buying from my LBS did come with a flip flop. and a cog and a lockring. Ended up with a Castro Valley instead. Dynohub!! |
