Tough fixie stem

Anyone know of a tough fixie stem?? I got an awesome Thompson off ebay but it was a tad too short Thought it'd be okay.

Anyway, I'm too scared to skid because I'm sure I'll rip the bolts out of the skinny aluminium and CF one I've got.

I'm 92 kilo's and want something I can put my weight on with no troubles... Any suggestions??

If you're looking for threadless, I've always ridden and never worried about Ritchey stems. The Ritchey comp is a four bolt plate with two countering stem bolts, and it's cheap (~$25-30 new, when I paid for one a few years back).

I also have a Syntace megaforce. I like these (and if you have a 25.4 bar, chucksbikes.com has them for like $12 or something). They feel strong even though the face plate is only a two-bolt and the stem bolts aren't countered.

(I'm assuming you're looking to spend less then the Thomson cost, or you'd just bid up another in your size, which is an option.)

i'd bet your stem is stronger than you think. personally, i'd inspect the stem regularly and not be worried about it suddently snapping. i know a lot of guys bigger than you who hammer on the lightest of the light carbon frames, stems, posts, wheels, bars, and whatever else with nary a problem.

if you're still in doubt, find a thompson in your size. you're just not going to break thompson stuff.

I installed a Salsa MotoACE S.U.L. on my winter beater and it looks like it could handle just about any stress you can throw at it. The faceplate is held in place by a locking system Salsa call Stiff Upper Lip, wich takes a lot of the load off the bolts if the marketing lingo on the box is to be believed. I'm a big guy too, 110kg last time i checked, ad I've been throwing my weight onto the stem carelessly for the last few days without noticing any flex.

That sounds like a bet to me. $50?
You can't rip the bolts out (unless you cross-thread them first).

Yeah, CF+al sandwich doesn't sound good for a big guy. But any decent quality Al stem will be fine I think. Stay away from the ultralight racing stuff but other that that, buy what looks good. Ritchey gets my personal endorsement.

Thompson will never do you wrong. If you want the best strength/weight ratio go with them. I run their seatpost and I am ordering a stem. There is a reason why everyone says they are the stongest, because they are. People run their seatposts past the limit for years of hard riding with no problem.

p.s.
I don't work for them or something. From experience I have found that they are built better than any other AL stem/seatposts I have seen.

All of you are wrong. None of these examples are fixie stems. None of these stems limit your ability to go fast in all situations while being somewhat inappropriate given their application.

TRY AGAIN, INTARNETS.
