Fixed gear with a motorcycle chain
I swear I used to have a picture of a track bike with a motorcycle chain on it, but I can't find it. Anyone have anything to this end?
|
Yikes, why would anyone do that. MC chains are huge! I want a to see it too.
|
uh, i had a friend who ran an MC chain on his bmx...tore up his chainring.
|
I'm not saying it's remotely practical - I just thought it looked cool as hell.
|
 an MC chain weighs about 12lbs !!

OK, you're right. That's rad. |

Running a 1/8" chain on 3/32" rings = running a 3/16" chain on 1/8" rings.
Okay.. not exactly equal, but theres no reason you cannot do it. |

That there's your olde timey inch pitch stuff, except only really wide. Noisy and slow are the words that come to mind.

Speaking of a Motorcycle chain on a bike, here's a motorcycle (well, scooter) with a bike chain. (and bike wheels, bike cranks and bike pedals). I saw it in person a few months ago. Sorry about the pic, I didn't take it. If anyone is interested, I'll try and track down some better pictures and post them in a different thread.

A BMXing friend did this once - it's cool until you need to take the chain off.

kmc makes a heavy duty dirt jumping chain, I've got one in my room right now. I was gonna use it on my fuji, then when I got it I realized how big it was and put it aside, if anyone wants it we could work a trade...

I think I remember someone talking about it with the picture something about never breaking a chain again.

Not a great shot, but it might answer some of your questions... |

Anybody know where I can pick up a 10mm chain for my Dur-ace setup?
Found a 50 tooth chainring on Ebay but no luck on replacement chain. I left what mounted on bike and the puppy has started to rust. Chain currently soaking in Coca Cola as 'Mythbusters' convinced me it will remove rust. A guy from Oz suggested motorcycle shop ? vous comprenez ? |
keep checking ebay for 10 pitch chains and be prepaired to spend some money
|
Stop while you're ahead.

All kidding aside, I really liked how the setup would 'fool' the other racers into thinking I was 'running light' when I was actually running a ratio close to or bigger than my 'normal' 1/8 " setup |
As for the photo I posted, the original page says it's Stephen Hartson's 1892 Lovell Diamond. I can't find any other good information about that particular model, but this page here has an informative article about another lovell model, as well as an article on the history of table utensils. If that isn't a sweet find, I don't know what is.
