Stupid questions/ rant
I just ran a hole in my vredstien forenza (sp) and only had them for like 3 weeks, Did they wear out rediculously fast for anyone else?
I also noticed that they would not stay seated worth a damn and had multiple blowouts, has anyone else experienced this with them besides me? Or has anyone experience Campy Atlanta '96's blowing tires out at anywhere over 115 psi? It would be one or the other of those two. (yes, I know that they are not made for skidding, wheelies, 180s, etc but damn its annoying) |
You mean Fortezzas? Which model?
They were on my tire consideration list, but damn, not anymore. |
tricomp 25 c.
They ride like a dream and can go up to 160 psi (if your rim can hold it) and they make a sweet skid sound but they just down right pissed me off. |
Tri-Comps wear
Yep. I had a pair and trained on them. They rode nice at high PSI but wore really quickly. Wouldn't buy 'em again.
|
Man, looks like I'm gonna go with Rubino Pros instead of these.
|
Get the Vittoria Team Pro kevlar skinwalls. Bombproof buttah. Caveat : $$$$$

Have they lasted a while brakeless?

I had a fortezza that wouldn't stay seated on one of my rims. Blew off when I was inflating it once and made me ****ing jump. I don't know about wear cos I was using it on the front and not for that long, but the compound seems quite soft.

Has anyone had a problem with Campy atlanta 1996's and blowouts? I had a few before these tires and I dont know which it is.
|
Try 23's. 25 may be a bit much for racing rims.
Just a hunch. |
i've ran many sets of fortezza's and think they have a much longer life than other comparable tires... though i'm not a skidhead... "hail skidler!"
as for the seating, i've also never had a problem with them either. however, they do seem harder to get on and off, so maybe the bead is larger on them? thus, maybe your rimstrip is too wide and keeping them from seating all the way? |
Are they blowing off the rim (i.e. bead coming unseated and off the rim and the inner tube then blowing) or are they blowing out without coming off the rim?
Campy rims have a bit of a reputation for tightness, so it would be funny if it was the former. If it is then the recommendation for rubino pros migt help as I hae found them quite tight on Campy Mexico rims. Otherwise check all the spoke heads and the rim tape to see if there are any holes or other problems. Might also be worth checking the valve hole for sharp edges. |
I am pretty sure it's the bead coming unseated and then intertube blowing as I have caught them off the rim before they popped.
I think it might be the 25 c factor. I could see how too wide of a tire would want to pull off the sides. |
Mine were impossible to put on, I punctured three (3) tubes trying and scratched the hell out of my rims because I had crappy metal irons. But I got it figured out. By the way, these were the 23 SE's, which are "Tricomp" too, but maybe not the same model. The small etchings on my back tire wore off after a couple weeks, as I ride brakeless and skid occiasonally because I hate slowing down for lights.
So for your wear, it might be because of the 25's, and chances are they're blowing off because of the rims. These are really nice tires, and yeah, not the most skid proof, but they should last longer. |
