Which wheelset would you choose?
This would be for street riding and for the track. All around, do everything wheels. What'll it be?

i actually ride exactly the phil open pro. I dont like the Volos. Rode a set the shop had for 10 days and the tension was ****ed that fast from street riding. No experience with ellipse.
I ride My wheels street/track for over a yaer and a half. Still solid.

i ride high flange phils/open pro on the street. i think they are amazing. and judging by the voting, i'd guess people are backing the phils as well.
i have a set of suntour sprint loose ball hubs that i wanna re-lace onto tubulars for track riding before it gets warm... but for the street you can't beat phils, in my opinion.

Cane Creek if you want it to look funky, Mavic if you want it to look like it means business. I'd avoid phil like the plague.

i ride ellipses on the track and street... though my track bike pretty much only sees the track lately. i love these wheels for both uses, but i think some open pro's laced to some four letter p hubs would be better.
paul's are sweet too. just saying.

i said the same thing, but then i got made fun of outside of smoothie king for not having phil hubs/v's. yeah, they're about twice as heavy as my old wheels, and my CK headseat feels exactly like my $20 ritchey, but when people see it locked up, they know that i have money and that's what counts.

Its not about the bandwagon effect, its about quality compared to price. At full price i dont think they are a value. But the resale rate on them is low and they have a lifetime warrenty for wear and tear. Not sure if Mavic does or not.

I would buy it and sell it the next day. Same if I got a deal on a classic lugged track frame. But what does that have to do with the topic on hand?

Do you have any experience with phil's failing or being un competetive on track. I race mine. I have also ridden volos and found them unstable and the tension system is funky.

the others are a tad flashy if you're looking to lock your bike. cant go wrong with the phils and open pros.
and if something has a lot of hype, wouldn't that make you more interested in trying it instead of avoiding it like the plague? the open pro and phil combo is tried and true and there's a reason for the hype phils get.

The Cane Creeks look dope. I'd be willing to buy the special spoke tool just to run wheels that look like they are from the future.

phil hubs are really heavy. if you're gonna race 'em, at least get the low flange. and open pros are durable but heavy-not a great choice for racing.
ellipse wheels have a problem with the nuts stripping the axles. i've seen it happen three times now. to me, it's a sign of a shi++y product, but admittedly it's on the axle and not a working bearing part of the hub. still, if you get 'em, be careful about overtorque on those nuts.
for street, i'd go with the durable phils. for track, cane creek. for trash, ellipse. but you can't have it both ways...

to me, stripped axles sound like the result of user error. just like any idiot can strip the nicest of hubs by improper use and installation.
