freight baggage backpack (not mess bag)
 

anyone have any pics? i'm 5'7 and am looking at the small and want to know if anyone has any experience with riding it in the pouring rain - are they as bombproof and comfortable to carry heavy stuff as "they" say?

I have a medium on order with Travis at the moment. I've checked them out in person in SF and a few friends have them - they're great bags. Certainly built well and for riding. Travis really knows how to make a backpack for riding on your bike.

I've come from an Ortlieb to wanting a shorter bag (the Ortlieb is a tad tall for my liking -- I'm 5'8) with better pockets and designed aesthetically to my specs.

There are a few threads with reviews of the backpack but forum member jacobs. Do a search for "freight bags" and look for the messenger bag thread (the massive one -- lots of reviews).

If you're in NY, King Kog has them and Trackstar may as well.

that post has some praise for travis. from going to his shop and seeing the bags, they are bombproof, and huge! i would say if you weren't gonna haul and infant, get the smallest ones, they run big.

I've got a bag made by travis before he started the company. Best bag i've ever had. There are a few other people here in atlanta using his older bags. The backpacks I've seen are going strong after at least 5 or so years of mess work.

thanks for the comments so far - what about walking with a load? one of the reasons i want a backpack in addition to my still-amazing baileyworks is that i want to able to walk around the city or even go on weekend trips with it and not have it feel uncomfortable - mess bags just aren't fun to walk around in long distances in.

I just bought a Reload backpack. It's amazing, I can hold anything I need, but at times it's almost too big. Really well made though!

Didn't mean to sidetrack from the thread.. I'd like to compare though.

the freight bags are awesome. I have a backpack, it's great in the rain.
also, for walking or hiking, there is a waist belt that works like the waist belt on a backpacking pack.
I have the medium, and have carried a twelve pack with room to spare in it...

Freight backpacks are where it's at.

More comfortable than my old reload whether on or off the bike, and they don't have the issue of the 3D pockets dropping your things for you.

I wiped out last night, drunk as **** on the way home from the bar, and none of my stuff fell out, bag didn't even shift around...

Just curious to know how everyone's Freight Backpack is holding up to daily abuse and such. Bombproof?
