"using a 54 x 13 gearing, a 3.2 kg wheel and 190 mm cranks, with his bike weighing a total of 9.8 kg. The reason for the heavy wheel was that although it was harder to get up to speed, it was easy to maintain it."

Hey DW, another 5 dollar CF peice of crap put together by newborn slaves!

that would only make sence if you were climbing the stairs upside down...
looking at the drivetrain buro9 is right... the "stairs" would have to be turning counterclockwise (the rungs climbing in the back of the loop)
however... a neat feature is the left side... with a normal freewheeled hub turned left side drive, and no derailuer... REVERSE!

that thing is dumb in ways i cant fathom... and yet...

the fact that he broke it using a round tube frame, traditionally spoked wheels, and drop bars is amazing.

not really since those are hour record requirements.

i'm still wondering about that pink colnago.
wouldn't the two stems make it pretty hard to turn.

You don't really turn on a track, you lean...the turns are banked so you just pedal faster and shoot through, like swinging a pail of water over your head without spilling a drop.

666pack 12-06-06 07:35 PM

so it's pretty much not at all practical in any type of situation where you would have to turn though?

Thinking about riding one off of a track? Good luck.

There are no situations for which it is practical anymore track or no.... However under any normal riding the stems would be unlikely to hit the ht.

actually, the stem's quills are parallel to the head tube, parallel lines never touch. It is physically IMPOSSIBLE for the stems to hit the HT. They would, however hit the down tube or top tube. I dont think it would be TOO much worse than some bars hitting the top tube before you can make a full revolution.

I was wondering about this too so I googled the guy--says he's 6'7". That + 190mm cranks + super high bb to allow clearance for said cranks = insanely high seat i guess.

PS the fork on that bike is stupid hot.

nice.

That is an interesting frame in the pic posted by 128. What is going on with the seat tube and seat stays - what is that extra bar in there? Part of the frame, like a stabilizer tube?

I wish I had spokeless wheels like him:)

Shiznaz 12-07-06 05:51 PM

They are frame reinforcements to make it stiffer. They are part of the frame.
