if it's three years old it's probably not bic pickable, that recall was in 2005, other than that you're bound for some work, good luck, i've seen someone try to bust a ulock open with a car jack, clearly abandoned bike, on rack outside of a supermarket, the owner of the market was with the tow truck driver(not sure why he called a tow truck) but they failed, i'm sure it's possible, they just had no idea how to do it

This thread has boosted my confidence in U-locks. Would it be easier to break the chain links that it is locked to? The chain will be 2 links shorter, but that might not make a difference to you.

fyi, this thread is from 2006

too lazy to look through all the replies but just use an angle grinder on that u-lock. It'll go through in less than 10 seconds.

And Scott H.^^^^. Is that wall-of-text your experience or someone else's? And, you/he weighs 340 lbs?

Wall of text lol. I think it's called a paragraph. You know, they are in books and magazines and things like that. Yup, my own experience. Yup, I weigh 340. Did you not get tha part? When I said "I weight 340" that means, that, well, I weigh 340. So, yes, I weigh 340. Did you get that part about me weighing 340? I guess that was pretty important to you. It helps some folk to mention details like that when they are trying to cut a lock by bouncing on the cutters. If I weigh 340, and theh guy trying it is 160, it might not work because they cannot get enough weight/pressure on it. I also mention that I am 6'-4". Perhaps you thought I was a fat slob or something. Nononono, I do lots of push ups and ride a lot and I am not a couch potato, I am just big from playing foot ball in college and riding and eating and lifting rocks and weights and stuff. I was 380 but I ditched the extra weight and I am way healthier now.

That is all my experience. I did it for ten years, now I am done. I am moving into Computer Science now, an equally annoying career as CNC Machining.

An angle grinder. Boy, if I had a dollar for everytime someone blurted out "uh. . .duh just use an angle grinder, it will cut through anything. . ." WRONG. Just because it is an angle grinder does not mean it can cut through anything and everything. I can't count how many times I had a bag fast fancy 500 dollar grinder with the diamond wheels and all that crap and I went through ten or so wheels before the grinder died. Dude, it jsut isn't that simple unless the lock is crap. If you can run an angle grinder right through a lock, you know the lock is crap. 10 seconds? Whatever.

Hey, did you know that I weigh 340? Please remember that, it is so very important. Write it down, take a picture and put it under your pillow at night. I might weigh 339 tomorrow. Please post your email so I can keep you personally update about my exact weight. You never know when that information might come in real handy. Like on a forum for instance.
