Help with a frame identification?
 

A friend has a no-label conversion (aluminum, vert dropouts) that has a diamond cross section down tube. The serial number starts with "IF"

Any ideas as to the make?

independant fabrications?

If that's the case, I would cry myself to sleep.

That was my first guess, but I know nothing about them. This frame doesn't look like anything special, kinda Trek-ish with ugly welds.

AFAIK, I.F. doesn't/hasn't done anything other than steel and the rare ti frame. Never heard of them doing any alu stuff, even as one off jobs. I'd highly doubt it's an I.F.

Marin has tube shaped like that on some frames
