what does your frame weigh?
 

well? and what kind it is/whether it's with or w/o the fork.

just trying to get an idea of things...

Pake listed at something like 4lbs without fork. I weighed my whole set up and it was 15lbs (51cm).

A typical, brand-name tubing, steel frame around 56cm is about 4 lbs. Figure .5 to 1lb heavier for 4130 chromoly. About .5 to 1lb less for high end aluminum. Low end aluminum is about the same as steel. Some of the new carbon fiber frames are just under 2lbs. This is all for current bikes. Older bikes will, typically, be heavier.

My BMC SL01 (yeah it has gears) was 1487g for a 54cm. My cheap crappy no-name steel singlespeed conversion's frame was 2.5kg in about a medium. My new fixie's frame is going to be whatever a Soma Rush, or an EAI brassknuckle weighs.

My Concept is 17.1 pounds built up.

Panasonic 3.7lbs
Schwinn 3.8lbs
Gunnar 3.8lbs

Frame only, no fork or anything else.

What's more impressive is that the Panasonic is lugged, and the other two are fillet brazed. The Panasonic is still lighter!!!

i find it somewhat hard to beleive that you built a pake up to 15lbs. not that it would be impossible, but somewhat disproportinately expensive compared to the frame.

Using a real deal bicycle scale, my track steed weighs a sliver under 17 lbs. There's not a carbon bit on the thing and nothing from the past 15 years aside from the frame (read: stupid light aluminum stems, bars, seatpost, etc).

My scale weighed my Continental frame and fork at. . . 13.5 lbs. :lol: Well it is indestructible.

your scale is way off. There's no way that junker weighs any less than 18lbs...undoubtedly much much more.


edit...never mind..I thought you were claiming you whole bike to weigh that. 13.5 is HEAVY for a frame and fork!

Anybody know how much a Barekinuckle weighs? I forgot to weigh mine before I assembled it.

Well..that depends. When I have it in track mode with track drops and with all accessories stripped off of it, its about 16.5-17 lbs according to my bathroom scale. In commuter mode with road drops, frame pump, headlight, rear blinkie, front brake, water bottles, wedge bag+tools, and whatnot, it comes in around 21.5-22.

I weighed it myself and was very surprised especially since it has cheap parts on it. But like I said it is a 51cm.

EDIT: I reweighed the bike and it is actually 19lbs. I guess I need to pay better attention.

yeah when i started a thread a while back about bike weights the general trend, most of the steel bikes started at 16lbs and went up to around 21. there were a few alu and ti numbers that were in the 15-16 lbs range.

don't get hung up on weight. it's not the be all and end all on the track, and certianly not of primary importance on the street. ride quality, fit, durability, aerodynamics and rolling resistance deserve more consideration than weight for a lot of fixed gear applications.

Cheapo Al road frame- 1900g. Steel fork is 900g.

nothing else is lightweight either, my bike weighs a ton

62cm Nishiki just under 5lbs, Tange #2 steel.
