Help with Yamaguchi...
 

If anyone has done the framebuilding classes with Yamaguchi, I would really appreciate a PM or email with some of your experiences particularly his teaching style. Or go to this thread. Thanks!!!

I have been looking into signing up for one of his classes as well. When were you looking to go? it would be nice if we could work something out to share a hotel or soemthing, jsut to cut down on costs. Let me know if you are interested about discussing which class you want to go to if you are serious about it.

Do either of you have welding / frame building experience? I've heard Yamaguchi is very hands off. You might want to look at UBI?

I have a number of years of welding experience, but not frame building. What do you mean by hands off? I'm considering both UBI and the Yamaguchi program, and have heard from many first hand about the former, but have heard little about the latter. The sheer experience and quality of work is what made me start looking at Yamaguchi, but I still would like to know more about how he teaches.

I have very little experience with welding, I have only taken a quick course at my university to get things started. I have heard that Yamaguchi expects some experience too, but his site says otherwise...maybe I should consider taking a welding course at the local community college before heading to yamaguchi

What I heard is he hands you the materials and tools, and does not give much instruction. I heard this second hand so I can't really elaborate.

Johnny Coast took both Yamaguchi and UBI.


It is what you get out of it. Somepeople give too much hands on and you never get YOUR hands on it and some give all no hand so you can feel it .

As I learned over the years, if you feel you need more or less ..LET THEM KNOW.

Only you know what you need more or less in.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking about doing both, but this first installment I'm doing with my girlfriend, so I have to think about that as well. I've been working with metal a long time, she hasn't. Decisions decisions.
