Fixie... magazine?

Is there a bike magazine around that focuses on fixed-gear bikes and riding?

br995 01-01-07 07:55 PM

Cranked Magazine bills itself as "the only bicycle culture publication in existence," and while it's not fixed specific it does cover a lot of fixed-gear-culture stuff.

Dirt rag also does some ss/fixed stuff, but they are very much a mountain oriented magazie.

edit: SSO is also a good read. I believe the outlaw himself occasionally posts here.

What's bicycle culture?

el twe 01-01-07 08:33 PM

Well, contrary to popular belief, it is for sale.

If I remember correctly, the short-lived FIXED Magazine was free? http://www.fixedmagazine.com/

it was cool to see Animal pitch in on the Kissena stuff for sure - every little bit helps.

I was actually referring to that thread about the NYC (?) clothing store that had a big window display involving a track bike that got people so worked up.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about it was actually a tall bike. Also, I don't know what I'm talking about. So talk it out, people.

BuddyMike 01-01-07 11:00 PM

brooklyn industries? That store?

cointelpro 01-01-07 11:33 PM

Yeah, but I guess these guys could be talking about some completely different incident in which some aspect of bicycling culture was maximized for profit by a group of monacled, handlebar mustachioed capitalists wearing stove pipe top hats. I'm a new jack so, y'know, I refuse to use the search function.

Is it a bad thing that every time I hear "Black Label" mentioned, I laugh a little bit inside?

jamey 01-02-07 01:44 PM

not at all. i think it's all pretty stupid. i'm glad i live in a town that is basically free of all that crap. there is one tall bike in town and it's owned by this weird old guy that still wears those fabric pants that were all popular in the early 90's.

didn't stop me from making $17 on it

mander 01-02-07 02:22 PM

So bike culture = the secret cool people that resent being emulated by posers while the man profits. Well if they dont want to be emulated then they shouldn't act so cool.

Jesus ****ing Christ can people just accept that there IS such thing as bike culture whether they like it or not. Denying it to sound above it makes you sound like such a god damn pretentious ****-head.

From my lurking it seems that 90% of threads degenerate into people trying to prove how un-hip they are.

True, and everything gets sold out eventually. Well, almost everything. Soon we will see skecher commercials with fixed riders wearing helmets, knee-pads, elbow-pads, and wrist guards. Blazing down and NYC street spraying Axe deodorant on themselves while being chased buy a mob of girls wearing skinny jeans. We should do what we can to prevent it from happening, but, we'll see...

(good job with your avatar Trully)

BizzaroBike 01-02-07 05:07 PM

Yeah, and Black Label is pretty goofy.

Is it time to reprint Mayo's book? I would love to get my hands on a copy, missed out the last time.

Well Im definitely unhip :) but I didnt want to rub it in anyones face earlier. I just never heard the phrase "bike culture" before and thought it was funny that such a small corner of the cycling world (basically, young urban h------s) has adopted the term for themselves. Where does that leave everyone else?
