Top tube pad

aWhy do single speed riders often put a ******y looking pad around the top tube?

babychris 01-15-07 12:03 PM

no dents.

Serendipper 01-15-07 12:09 PM

I used old black bar tape on a black frame. No dents or chipped paint and I never had to worry about a top tube pad getting stolen. edit: protects from dust accumulation

Shiznaz 01-15-07 12:42 PM

anti-sacking device/carrying cushion/roadside seat padding/2.5 foot long hotdog cozy/shiznaz sized dick cozy/etc....

I never have to worry about mine getting stolen because it is completely gross. it turned into a top tube pad/ grease rag.

Your pad looks like a bloody mess. I was going to make a reference to female hygene, but I have too much class for that sort of nonsense.

I used tape to black out the decal on my frame, but taping up a frame to preserve the paint reminds me of those plastic sofa cushion covers.

BuddyMike 01-15-07 01:24 PM

I guess the bar tape keeps the dust off the top tube... One more positive thing about that to add to the list.

Just when I think the interweb can't get any dumber, it goes and do something like this...

...and TOTALLY REDEEMS ITSELF!

I'll concede this round... Capital play old fiend.

Jonny Pockets 01-15-07 03:13 PM

I got mine because it's very nice for carrying purposes, and I have sensitive shoulders.

Oh, and it looks *****in'.

Smorgasgeorge 01-15-07 03:52 PM

Protection and padding for knee-in-frame stuff (well that's more fixed than SS).

And if you don't want them to get stolen, use a hose clamp or two.

zippered 01-15-07 05:49 PM

i can't imagine dust having time to accumulate?

i really wish i had of bought one when i first bought my bike. now theres a strip of paint along the left side that has been scratched off by locking up to ring posts.

br995 01-15-07 05:54 PM

Because putting it around the downtube would just be silly.
