MAVIC ELLIPSE lockrings only ?true or false?

can you only use mavic lockrings on mavic hubs or will a dura-ace or soma fit fine as well?
and while I have your attention are EAI cogs and or Phil cogs thicker than say a cycle pro or surly cog?

You could use a paul crankset in that case.

it came with a lock ring.
but I cant get the thing to butt up against the cog. the cog would spin back if I tried to skid or skip.
I put a 2mm spacer behind the cog and it seems to work but it seem that I might strip the threads if I try to tighten it all the way. I could still crank on the lockring but I'm scared. and I was wondering if A better Cog might be thicker?
has anyone had this issue?

I use a 16t DA cog with the Mavic lockring on my Ellipses with no problems. I have the cog oriented so that the flanged side of the cog faces inward towards the hub. I can't recall off-hand what the chainline ends up being, but it's more than 42mm.

The Mavic website specifies a 33x1.0 french-threaded lockring (Mavic Part no. 32397101). Harris Cyclery sells them for $13.

Some of the cheap cogs are more narrow than DA, which could lead to the problem you describe, also the case if you ride miche hubs.

I put a soma lockring w/ eai cog on my mavic ellipses, no problems except the lockring thickness was greater than the one that came stock w/ the rush hour pro, it also had a washer. So, I didn't use a washer. Seems to work fine.

you must have forced the threads a bit to make it fit.
and that would be fine with me if I knew the lockring threads wouldn't strip right off under a hard skid like it did with the spacer. two day of riding them an they are already a little f##ked.

If I take off the already tight soma lockring, that seems to be working fine, and replace it with the proper mavic lockring, will it fit right...or did I screw up the threads by tightening the soma onto the cog? Maybe I should just leave it be until I wear out the cog?

if it works don't f**k with it.
you won't be able to put a mavic ring on that side. but you have two fixed side so your good.
