Ok, now I've got it on I can't get it off. Is the plate on the outside supposed to just slide over the pin? I could do it when I was putting the two ends together but now it aint that easy.
I would use a chain breaker but the pin on mine is bent so it tends to **** the link up. |
yeah the plate on the outside slides so that the pin is in the wider part. then it comes off.
|
the little clip part that goes on the outside (the top piece in the pic above) comes off best with a pair of needlenose pliers. you don't want to grab the clip with them and yank it off, you want to squeeze the top of one of the pins and one of the clip's prongs together, towards each other. the pin will stay in place (obviously) and the clip will slide back.
and then it's off! |
I like the title of this thread, it should be a sticky. It would probably get out of hand, but could be entertaining.

Why do the batteries on your lights always go when it's dark?
|
Do you travel often with lights on..in the light?
|
If I'm removing the master link at home, I use my needlenose pliers. If I need to do it on the road, I use the hard edge of my chain breaker and push it apart. Anything that can exert enough force on the open end of the outer part is fine!
And don't listen to the people slamming the master link - it's a lot faster and less destructive of a force on the chain. |
