Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

No offence intended here, but with this many crashes, you would be the last person I would listen to when it comes to riding a bike and brakes.

Well, I haven't crashed 12 times in the last ten years. I guess that about sums it up.

BTW, people need to learn how to use those goddam brakes. Flying over the bars is so 2006...

You have 3 options

a- you learn how to ride brakeless

b- you learn how to use a front brake without flying over the bars every time you touch it

c- put front and rear brake

Not that roadies don't try to be predictable as well, but it's a whole other thing on the track. The only comparison would be a mass start race with about 50 people, about 5 holes knocked in the track, big screens so the turns are blind, somebody emptying bags of trash in front of a big fan on the backstretch, and maybe the occasional squirrel release. Yeah, that would be fun.

Where is this track? And are all the race spots filled?

Last year, I broke my wrist the same way. Beats being run over, I guess. I'm getting into the habit of ducking down & bracing my arms when emergency braking to prevent being catapulted.

Northbrook, midnight Thursday. I'm running the squirrels for at least the first two heats, then I'm hoping someone will take over so I can race.

The brakeless crowd just likes to use this as an excuse to justify their brakelessness. You will never just go flying over the bars superman-style by using your front brakes...in a severe emergency stop you may endo and perhaps fall forward as you make a sudden stop, but thats still better than plowing into a bus at 22 mph.

That's nonsense. Real riders have bikes, and use them well.

Your brake usage does not determine your "riderness"
