You know that it's going to come up; cheap IRO build
I will spare all of the people that will ask the following question the actual asking
Realistically, if you do not have a bike recycler/huge pile of parts available, and you order the Bfssfg IRO, what will it cost to build it up? I mean for this excercise:
you have to buy all new parts available somewhere; online, LBS, whatever.
How inexpensively can you build it up and still have something rideable?
Then, what will you actually spend building yours?

I could build it for $50. New hub/spokes/brake cable everything else from the parts pile.
Realistically It would probably cost me $300 even though I have some of the parts on hand already. Most of that would be spent building wheels

wheelset $100 --> bikepartsusa.com
stem, headset, bars--> I dunno, maybe $60 any online retailer really
cranks---> $30 from chucksbikes.com
saddle---> I like a decent but not too pricey saddle, $45-$60 will get a light skinny selle
tubes, tires --> $85 for armadillos and tubes
chain--> zmc 610hx runs about $12-$15
chainring--> $25-$30
cog and lockring $35ish
BB--> $12 tops, I think my last shimano un-52 was like $8
not including bartape that puts it at:
$427 plus frame + pedals
I did a tsunami frame w/fork which was $274 shipped with the above parts list and the total was $515, but I had the cranks, chain, tubes, and pedals already
I used bikepartsusa.com, aebike.com, nashbar.com, and chucksbikes.com for all of it, the only thing the LBS did was set the crown race and cut the fork, that was $10
that was about as cheap as I know how to do it and still use mostly new parts and do the work myself

i fully intend to just swap everything over from my pake frame... then maybe get it built up as a winter beater by the end of next year.
that said, i'd buy a new headset and bb (no reason to swap those out) so not much

I want to build it up decent, new mostly. My old parts are still new. I have another bike coming in. It's a hand-made lugged frame. That one will be blinged-out.

All I need is a rear hub, cog & lockring ($120 budget) and I'm set. I might get a Cinelli Alter if its blue, then a red flite to go with my red CK headset.......

I might build it up with parts on my panasonic conversion...they're mostly white.
Still, there's some great looking stuff on eBay right now. I'll probably end up spending $350.00 including wheels, bars, stem, seatpost, saddle.

my current angus has too much into it. I might swap everything over to the new one and build my old one up as a beater.

bump.
I figured since there's a whole thread on this, I'd bring it to the top. I've got everything except bars, stem, cranks, BB, and brake levers.
All in all, it will probably have ended up being an extra 400 bucks using mostly Nashbar for parts.

I wanted to do a nice tricked out build for mine, but if I just swap over everything from my current fixed gear, all I'll need is a headset, stem, and seatpost.

Mine will cost about $1300 with all new parts(all from Europe or the US). If the frame doesn't fit well, I'll buy a budget custom frameset, and have a one sweet ride.

id be surprised if it could be built up with cheap parts for much less than the build kit from iro
seems like the path of least resistance
and of most funky looking stems

I bet once we ride them, we are gonna think the frameset is worth more than $150. What is 4 months of waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel worth for you?
