track bikes and raw denim

i've just found my two favorite ways to waste money. i'm a little nervous to combine to two, but i could get some interesting horizontal cuff wear...

Crotch and knee holes are cool though...except when you slip the front of your seat into the crotch hole and can't get it out. The first time I did that was a fun wreck.

my one pair of jeans got ruined cause the crotch hole eventually got so big. I tried sewing them but the threading ripped when i was getting on my bike. Sucks. I liked those jeans.

I LOVE wearing jeans on my bike.. it just feels so good, and right. I also really enjoy tight jeans made of raw denim.

Unfortunately, i got major crotch holes from doing this. I took them to my local drycleaners for patching, and asked if they could do anything to make it more durable for riding, but now matter what I tried, I always get crotch holes from biking in my favorite jeans.. Maybe I just need to wear looser jeans? i dunno.
but its kind of embarassing.

i've always had the crotch hole problem. perhaps we should reinforce the crotch area (on the inside) before wearing them.
that would at least make them last a little longer i think.

i haven't tried it yet.

haha

i'd been wearing some Cheap Mondays for almost two months, then realized Gap of all places had "authentic japanese" selvage denim. for 19.99! (down a few sales from $99) they were a little looser in the legs than i'd like, but after a two hour soak they're just right

(the amount of stacking is due to me being 5'6 and the shortest inseam they had in my waist size being 32 [which is more like a 34])

This is hilarious. Back when I was a kid, all jeans came like that. I ran them through the washing machine twice before wearing them. Then they invented "stone wash", Acid Wash" (shudder) and recently a myriad of ludicrous new washes and fades that are supposed to simulate real wear. Just when I thought people were getting too lazy to actually wear their own pants, a new "trend" comes along. "Unwashed Denim" what an innovation. I just have to wonder why it's so much more expensive. Does it cost more NOT to wash the jeans before they sell em?

fixed geared bikes, what an innovation...
who said anything about it being new? i've got my eyes on Levi's reproduction of their 1947 501.

its more expensive because a decent amount of it is small companies/really high quality denim/selvage seams (denim woven on a really narrow loom, the edges of the fabric act as the seams so you dont have to worry about pouring tons of stitching on to ensure it wont ravel)

plus its cool, duh

oh and wearing the **** out of raw denim every day for months without washing = ridiculously good looking wear, if a little smelly

My favorite jeans were always the ones that were just worn in. With the lighter washes you don't see that natural fade anymore, and don't get me started on fake wear. Seriously makes me feel like a curmudgeon, but they've been "distressing" jeans since I was a kid, and it's never made any sense to me. I do think the next pair of Levis I buy will be the unwashed variety. Tell me about the 1947 repros.

yeah levi's has a few unwashed jeans. the regular old Shrink-to-fits, at $35-40 are the least expensive / most common

the 47 reproductions are real real nice, they're a slimmer cut all over than current 501s. have hidden back pocket rivets, produced in the US, selvage seams. only problem is they're $175, and thats more of an investment than i can financially make on jeans right now.

https://www.levisstore.com/product/in...entPage=family

they're the "dead stock" ones, they look infinitely better in person. i dont really get why they look so dark/****ty on the site

i've been wanting to get a pair of unwashed shrink to fit 501s for a little while now.
i usually just wear levi's 505 and they work fine. they're the most regular fitting jeans they make in my size (34x36).

I don't know if I will EVER feel I can make a $175 investment in a pair of jeans. It's a moot point anyway, since they don't have anything that would fit me, or much of anyone else for that matter. If you can beleive theirshrinkage figures, the largest size they have is a 31x31 washed.

I've been rocking some iron on patches on the inside of jeans to mend my cycling induced holes. They're holding up alright. You just have to iron them long enough so the glue sticks properly.

it's weird this thread came up. i just got back from the mall (x-man returns) where I snagged a pair of gap selvage. Morrisons - not dry, but close enough. i've been looking for a pair of jeans for a whole year, and there they were - for $40cdn. yeah, i'd but Japanese denim if I could, but those cost more than my crankset.

If I get my white perforated supercorsa stained with indigo denim drippins, do I qualify for hipster journeyman status?

yeah. I use Mastik for my FIXED 4EVER crotch patch, but I've heard some people have success with Tufo extreme tape.
