Fixed and clipless?
 

Yes,ive done it,and know several that still do...went back to toe clips/straps cause cleats wear out too fast and suck to walk in.Plus in winter they get screwed by ice/salt.They work ok other than that,just beware that if one unclips unexpectedly while your going fast,you will crash.

I ride my fixxie clipped in and I dont have any problems with it. You have to have the pedals in the right place when you take off and you must time your dismounts correctly but it isnt very hard. Try an spd style pedal if you are worried since they are double sided and fairly easy to clip and unclip from.

i ride fixed and clipless, no big deal. the only problems i've had with riding clipless is one that would happen on any bike, freewheel or not, and that's having snow freeze on the pedals when i've got the bike locked up outside. getting started and dismounting are no different than riding with toeclips, really.

All the guys, out of this shop, ride fixed and clipped, either Looks or Speedplays. The messengers I have talked to prefer clips and straps for easier walking.There is even a guy, on the cutting crew, who stops in from time to time, when down from Chicago, and picks up metal Zefal clips from us because the Chicago supply seems to have dwindled.

Run MTB style clipless pedal and shoe. I use that setup on my commuter and have no problems walking around after my rides if I just need to wonder off somewhere.

Speedplay frogs have the mechanism in the cleat, so freezing is not a problem.

Count me among the clipless/fixie riders. I have one w/clipless (campus pedals) and one w/toe clips...I like clipless better.

You'll never feel more connected to your bike than riding fixed and clipless. I'll be doing it today - on the trails.

If you are riding on the road, wear MTB shoes or casual/touring type shoes and you don't have to worry about cleat wear.

I use Speedplay clipless with my fixed road bike (same as my freehub road bike). I use it as a training tool and don't really stop anywhere to walk around.

I can't imagine not using clipless on any type of bike. I can remember using straps and cages. That was inconveinant and dangerous. I can remember trying to turn around on a road while locked in. I was on my back with the bike above me and my shoes still clipped in.

If you need to walk around they make mtb type clips also.

I think clipless is one of the greatest advancements in cycling in the last 30 years.

Most messengers in boston i've seen dont go clipless but use straps, however I have seen a few with speedplays. Personally when I try it I'll use my eggbeaters as they're my easiest to get into and out of pedals.

At my last race we had a team time trial event, and they had an entire team riding fixie trackbikes riding clipless with look pedals (this wasn't a flat time trial course either). It was a pretty awesome sight, huge chainrings and disc wheels. Apparantly one of them had a puncture on their disc wheel tire at 45mph and stopped without any incidents what so ever which was good. Well good that he didn't get hurt not that he had a flat.

Oh yeah, is it possible to do jumps on a fixie? I can't imagine trying to bunny hop.

Jumps, bunny hops, log piles - all possible and lots of fun. Launching a jumping and pedaling in the air is a wild feeling and sure to get you looks.

I run Egg Beaters on all my bikes, including my fixie. I never thought about it. Egg Beaters seem ideal because you don't have to fool with them. No fumbling for the right side, just clip in any of the 4 sides. I used to use Looks which I loved, but I tried the Egg Beaters so I could use mtb shoes for commuting. I loved them immediately, and put them on all my bikes.
