Fixed Gear Tandem

Anyone ever built or ridden one? I know they must exist, because I've heard of tandem racing on the track, but I've never seen one. Imagine tandem trackstanding!

LóFarkas 01-26-07 04:35 AM

Sheldon used to ride one with his wife. I think he never confirmed trackstanding on it though.

Sammyboy 01-26-07 04:52 AM

Ha! Never thought of doing a FGG search til now. Several there. Can you imagine descending?

But, can they flip it?

I was told that in competitive track racing at the Burnaby velodrome where I live, tandems are mainly used so that blind people can compete as stokers. It's a paralympic discipline they say.

I have a tandem thats a touring style ride. I considered converting it but it turns out it is quite dangerous for street riding. ha.

andre nickatina 01-26-07 12:40 PM

Man, imagine doing fishtail skids on a tandem!

pathdoc 01-26-07 02:21 PM

I think Don Walker made a track tandem.

Rikardi151 01-26-07 02:26 PM

at the trexlertown 'drome they have an event called tandemonium. its awesome...

silent1 01-26-07 05:35 PM

Don Walker posted a picture of his tandem in the last year or so. Can't find the picture but it was a nice bike.

Hello Everyone,
I've never really posted before as I am new here. I usually just lurk but I thought I'd add something. I have a tandem track paramount from the 1960's that has a full campy track tandem group. Races haven't really existed for them since the 90's but as someone mentioned above they are used in events for hearing or visually impaired stokers. It's a blast to ride and it's pretty scary because it is not a fast stopper. The tight geos make the stoker rest their chin on the small of the captains back so it's not awesome on longer rides. I rode it last year for Chicago's Bike the Drive and it was a lot of fun. I'd love to try racing it one these days though. I guess I've stopped lurking now. Cheers.

Hey, in the interest of the cause... here ya go.

You have the digital photo on your computer, right? First, upload it onto flickr.com, imageshack.us or some similar imagehosting site.
Find the URL (web address) of the image, select and copy it. Edit: use right click/properties. With flickr, chop off the 3 or 4 characters from the end after .jpg.
You can paste it into your post here, or click this icon: http://www.bikeforums.net/images/editor/insertimage.gif
above the box you type in. Paste the URL and then the pic will appear in all its glory right here.

If the image is small, bf.net will host it for you but I don't know how:rolleyes:

That thing has some crazy slack. You be cruisin' lowrider style.

Laaaaaid back.

that little girl looks really ****ing pleased to be holding up that bike

Nouia 01-28-07 12:56 AM

I wrecked a SS tandem once with my dad as the stoker and my piloting. I didn't realize how utterly huge the turning radius is on those things. Gotta be careful in those cul de sacs.
