Italian steel, Asian build facility. Nothing wrong with either of those, just a bad weld. Certainly something that doesn't take two pages to understand. Contact the point of purchase and go from there.

the OP should get in touch with the shop, and go from there. And if the shop balks, EAI are very cool folks and would like to hear about their frame for sure. Just don't go to them off the bat.

^^^ I agree...these smaller operations have a great deal vested in customer service. I'd be surprised if EAI wouldn't stand behind their product.

Even being made in Italy, it stands to the same principles. You get what you pay for, and that bike is absurdly cheap considering the materials invested in it.

Oh come on, its not absurdly cheap....the tubes are good, but still near the bottom of the Dedaccia tubesets...the same tubes are on the Kona Paddy Wagon which you can buy complete for not much more than a Bareknuckle frame and fork.

I didn't mean my comment to come off as a slag against Taiwan-made bikes, just a statement about the confusing nature of international manufacture.

A lot of the cheap Canadian brands (Peugeot, AVP, etc) count or used to count as made in Canada because the frames are painted here, and the complete bikes are boxed here. The biggest distributor/rebrander of these bikes here even tried to get a law passed protecting them against non-Canadian companies (basically every brand that's not Cervelo, Argon 18 and a handful of others) by taxing them a huge amount (30% I believe) for selling "imported" bikes, when theirs were the same thing, but they had a home office north of the 49th.

Not saying that's the case for the EAI frames, and I don't know about the USA's laws on this.

Kona's are a good deal as well.

COM12.5 is a huge step up from straight gauge 4130, and last I checked Surly's weren't far off in price.

I'm pretty sure Surly's aren't straight gauge 4130 either, but nonetheless cheaper than a Bareknuckle in cost and materials.

Surlys are DB.
a Pake however, is SG 4130, and the price difference there is significant.

Peugeot is probably the most common brand of totally junk older bike you'll find in Canada along with Velo Sport, especially Quebec - except for the fancy one (UO-10?) and maaaaaybe the cheaper version of that one, I've never ever seen one that was anything but gaspipe tubing with junk components, and I've seen a lot of these bikes. I had a UO-8 (at least going by the decals) in my backyard that I was going to use because it was my size more or less, and man that was a heavy bike, it had to be a 9 or 10 pound frame if my Surly is 5 or 6. I would guess that they made the one or two really nice models in France until the mid 70s, then everything was "made in Canada" Peugeot rebranded Canadian Tire bikes.

A couple years ago the big Cdn rebrander started using the name again for a range of low-end bikes along with Miele. All junk.
