he means "cool" people who deliver stuff to other people by bike.

Wilmington, Delaware my hometown has them. My roommate is one actually and I've been offered it a few times but passed it up to remain at my current job. Theres 2 or 3 companies (all the court houses are here plus a lot of gigantic banks NATIONAL headquarters but the downtown itself is not very big). The one company actually has a fleet of Monocogs.

Oh and my roommate is paid hourly not per package

I get it, so all the pizza delivery guy has to do is ride a track bike, wear a cycling cap, and stuff that pizza in a chrome bag.

I love riding bike around the city too but when it has been 16 degrees with an 8 degree windchill after a snowfall here and I see messengers at 7AM shivering at a traffic light so they can drop off their package, I don't envy them.

I know it seems cool but...

This is why I went to college.

no, I mean people who don't work for a restaurant. Or the local paper. Delivery boys and paper boys aren't messengers in my sense of the word. Maybe they are in yours. Maybe I insulted you because you deliver pizzas? My appologies.

To-may-to, To-mah-to. Let it drop, it was just a simple question.

The commercial spaces in the Albany area are too diffuse to allow messenging to thrive here. It's a nasty little rat's nest sprawling 20mi in every direction.

I'm a In-House courier for a print shop in phila. I don't go "long" distances (30 city blocks maybe) but I do carry some heavy stuff sometimes. there is this one chinese guy that work for a place called JoJo (20th and chestnut). he work everyday, rain, wind, snow, hail, fire, godzillas, etc. he's like 60. Bike Food Delivery count in my book.

Anightinthewood 02-03-07 02:28 PM

Hah.. I can nearly see that place if I look out my window right now.

I just hate that 95% of the Chinese delivery guys in this city insist on riding in a wobbly zig-zag pattern down sidewalks. I got in an accidental game of chicken with one while I was on foot once because we kept trying to dodge each other in the same direction. Within a few feet of me, he grabbed the brakes, went over the front of the bike and flew past me and onto the sidewalk. Bah.
