flat clipless shoes

does anyone know what clipless shoe brands make shoes with flat insoles?
i need completely flat shoes (vans, pumas, chucks) and can't wear anything with an arch (nike, adidas, acics). i tried on sidi dominators and specialized, but neither work for me. pearl izumi is the closest i could find to being completely flat on the inside. anyone know of any other brands?

thanks.

sounds like you need a custom orthotic

Fixxxie 02-07-07 02:37 PM

try some of the companies that make BMX type clipless shoes
Shimano has some and Answer used to maybe six six one or something

my adidas minretts are really pretty flat. much more flat than my adidas sambas. the minretts feel about like vans slipons on my feets, but less flexible. they're two bolts though, it sounds like you're looking for a 3 bolt shoe.

Thats what I thought too but my wife has this old stinky pair of Shimano BMX shoes and she absolutely LOVES those awful things

Retem 02-07-07 05:17 PM

well the older shimanos and the vans vmx were rad shoes but the vans aren't made anymore and the new shimanos fail to impress me I like my sidis alot tho

There was an old pair of vans on CL the other day where someone had modified them and put SPD cleats on the bottom.

I would like to see pics of that vans made a model for the bmx crowd called the vmx int he late 90's but has since discontinued the shoe

Maybe it was those. But they looked home spun. Literally just a pair of vans with a little cavity carved out of the sole and some clips installed. The post is gone so I can't find the pics.

It seems like vans and other shoes are thick soled enough to make it work. Use a dremel and an exacto to make a little inset, Then you would just remove the shoe bed and rivet or bolt them on. You could use silicone or shoe goo to seal it up from water, etc.

most aren't really. I've seen it done and the cleat usually hits the ground a lot more then with real cycling shoes. Thats why all the skate shoe style cycling shoes look so ridiculous.

If you do want to do it.
-rip out the insole and cut out the cleat area.
-get some thick plastic and cut it in the shape of the insole
-dremel slots for the cleat.
-put everything in place then get a new insole to cover cleat.

I bet my DCs would be good. The sole is really stiff and thicker than normal, I don't wear them much for that very reason. I really only skate in them and I don't skate much these days.

Check out Diadora if you can get your hands on 'em, I've got two pairs with pretty flat insoles, the ones I commute in feel like skate shoes but stiffer.

If you're a size 47, I've even got an extra pair, I think.
