Depends on your budget. If $200 for a crank and chainring isn't obscene to you, go 144 (sugino 75, etc.). If it is, go 130 (old road cranks, Sugino RD, etc.).

More pics! :)

Headset installed. Cane Creek C2 1" threadless.

The crankset. This, so far, is my favorite part acquired. Keirin approved Sugino 75's. 165mm length, 46T chainring with 144mm BCD for a 109 spindle length. This will be polished to high heaven as well.

The track ends were not that much at all.
When I was working in a bike shop, ColorArt (I think it was) could paint a frame for about $150-200(??)

ironcamper 03-03-07 06:57 PM

This is one beautiful, professional looking build. I am so jealous. I'd sacrifice a finger to be able to do what you're doing.

mander 03-03-07 09:29 PM

Wowzers, looks great so far. My frame is about the same pearlescent blue as yours (mine's a two stage powdercoat) so I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do and possibly stealing an idea. :)

rodri9o 03-04-07 12:58 AM

thanks for all the compliments :)

Wheels are built...finished them yesterday afternoon.
Front: polished Formula hub, 15/16g radial spokes with alloy nipples, white Velocity Aerohead
Rear: polished Formula hub, 15g 3-X spokes with alloy nipples, white Velocity Aerohead

Front wheel:

Rear wheel:
http://i.pbase.com/o6/19/574219/1/75...l.P3180002.JPG

Rear has been spaced a little so I don't have to tweak the frame for 120.. rear end

Close up of the hubs. The front hub came out very nice, but the rear needs a little more polishing compound...at some point soon I will take it apare to replace it with brass nipples, and at that time I will polish it up a little more.

So...thats where we are at right now. I pulled the bearings off to polish the hubs so they would stay clean and pressed them back in when done. Too bad there is not a 28H front hub available from Formula...that black stuff was a pain to get off.

HAHAHAH...Spooney..nice to see ya here!

PS: Also polished my seatpost. It it a U.S.E. Alien I picke dup for $50. :D

Looks like you have a Fixed/Fixed hub, yet its an SS project?

Looks great though.

barba 03-24-07 11:42 AM

I suppose single speed also includes fixed gear, but you can also mount a freewheel on a fixed hub. In fact, I don't understand why all hubs are not fixed/fixed.

Thats what i thought when i first saw a fixed/free. If the threads work, then wtf?

rodri9o 03-24-07 09:16 PM

its getting close...I have the BB coming in on friday (sugino75), and a EAI 18T.
any recomendations on a chain?

well...it was my mistake. i was incorrectly using the terms single speed and fixed interchangebly. in the first post i tried to correct it by editing.

blickblocks 03-24-07 10:05 PM

What is wrong with your pictures? Haven't you heard of photobucket?

Nice bike though. Very nice.

I´d say Wipperman Weißstern (White Star) if you can find it

seaneee 03-25-07 12:36 AM

SRAM PC-1 GOLD BMX would be nice subtle touch. Again, if you can find one.

rodri9o 03-31-07 04:02 PM

Ok...the project is complete:

Went for a ride this morning and it felt great. Quiet, smooth, nimble...perfect. the little Bridgestone weighs in at 15.5 lbs, not that I'm a weight weenie, but still...lighter than I expected. I am still playing around with different stems, and angles, but thats it...for the most part...project complete.
:)

barba 03-31-07 05:20 PM

That is a very nice bike. Well done, and enjoy the ride.
