Advice!?!?

I've desperately been searching for an old single speed, but I have had no luck at all. I've found numerous 12 speeds and I'm thinking about converting one, I know a little bit about the subject but I still have no Idea what I would be getting myself into. I'm on a pretty tight budget and this will be the first bike of my own. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check craigslist. I have seen a few SS and FG show up lately.

So take the 12 speed, rip off the front and rear deralliuer, shorten your chain, and viola instant (albeit ugly) SS.

voltagebinary 02-10-07 03:21 PM

or do that ^^^ and just replace your rear wheel with a flip-flop....

crater 02-10-07 04:19 PM

will the dropouts pose a problem?

voltagebinary 02-10-07 04:21 PM

i don't think so... just get the correct wheel size for your frame and you should be fine...
