Groundup still around
Ok, so I think this year I can finally pull the trigger and commision a custom frame. I've gone through every builder I can think of and love the stuff groundup has done. Does anyone know if he's still building? I checked the site but didn't see much info.

idea - email eric
I bet he will respond. PM me if you don't her back. I might be able to make a few contacts to see whats up |
If there is any good in this world, he is still building. I so want one of those beasts.
|
i have a lugged track racing frame in the works with eric.
this new dirtrag has an article about him as well. |
definitely still building, he just posted an ad here selling an older bike of his: http://www.fixedgearfever.com/module...ewtopic&t=2749
and said in the ad "if i was commisioned to make this frame new for a customer i would have to charge 1800. (i can do that for you if you want, see my website) " so obviously he's still making new frames |
awesome. Thanks guys. I'll stop bugging everyone and give him a call.

come on guys, lets not get too personal.
p.s. do the zipp wheels come with the ground up bike? cause if they do, that would be a hell of a deal. |

If I were ruler of the world, everything would be covered in a patina'd copper plating.

That bike may be the closest thing yet built to a bike perfectly matching my desired ęsthetic in a custom.
|
Yeah that bike is incredible. I love this aesthetic also. I think it's time to plunk down the money and go for a custom. I need to do the taxes and see what I have coming back.

stupid question, but anyone know what its made out of?

it's fillet brazed steel. i'm not sure of the tubing, but i think it's a mix of makers. it was then copper plated and left exposed to develop it's natural patina. the seatstays are inverted fork blades and the chainstays are straight gauge square tubing that eric bought at ace hardware. he milled some panels down each face to lighten them. this bike is stiff as heck and accelerates unbelievably well. the one he made for our friend scott has the same chainstays. it's baby blue with cream panels. it's on eric's site and on velospace.org. i'm sure some of you have seen it.
this thread shows some of his other track bikes: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=175266 |
Eric is definetely a very cool guy. My future custom build is between him and DW. I could pay for a base one now, but he is the only builder that I know of that is willing to do some creative things on frames, so I'm trying to save up more to give him enough to really run wild with the design.
I've worked with him in the past for part trades and he's awesome been very cool. |
