dude either doesnt know or is trying to sell you some drop levers as well. i'm going to guess option a.

it's true that they were designed to be used inline, and have ergo/friction disadvantages that were mentioned above, but they also are cheap and have a hinged clamp for easy removal. i've been using one as an "oh ****" brake for awhile and have no complaints.

I call BS on that. They work fine. Same as Tektro, Soma, etc. Same factory I think as well. Besides, nashbar reps are gonna take the high road for liability reasons.

Saw one of the first couple made the other day, and they are pretty damn solid levers. The pics don't do them justice. The ones I saw were either all black or all silver. Being machined rather than cast is pretty impressive. My only compliant was the lever seemed almost too short to get a good grip, especially in an e-brake situation.

But if your taking the aesthetic route (which I often do), it's pretty sweet.

Was that one of the black anno ones you stripped?

Yep.. The levers were silver but the clamp was black anodized. The levers are very easy to take apart. I sprayed the clamp with Easy Off oven cleaner to remove the anodizing and polished with MAAS metal polish.. Did I go overboard? hell yes... but this bike has all silver components...

ok...if i put a lever in that spot on the bar (i actually was given 2 yesterday by a girl who had the 'extra brakes levers' removed from her road bike) what do i use for hoods? as it is i only have one on the pista track bars, but i like the hoods on the road bike and want to emulate that on the fix. whether or not they are functioning matters not. what are my options.

sorry to hi-jack.

well they sell the hoods with no levers for tandems, usually called "tandem blanks" or "dummy levers."

i personally just threw a rear brake on there though, now i have the option of freewheeling with confidence.

iridetitus 02-12-07 02:06 PM

frame isn't drilled and i'm not going to drill it. forgot about tandem 'dummy's'... google, here i come. thanks.

you can also just pop the lever out of a regular brake lever leaving only the hood or just leave it in and not put a cable through.

dirtyphotons 02-12-07 02:16 PM

^yeah, that sounds better to me than a $30 tandem blank.
