Kona Paddy Wagon Sizing Help
 

Hi all. I'm looking to get a Kona Paddy Wagon very soon but unfortunately none of the shops in my city stock them, so I'm gonna have to order one from interstate without having the chance to test ride any different sizes.

I'm just over 5'11" tall and I have an 05 Kona Dr Dew which I'm pretty sure is a 58cm frame. I thought it was a 56, but I measured the head tube against the 07 measurement chart on the Kona website and it seems to be a 58cm frame by that measurement. I still love this bike and the size is pretty much bang on the money for me.

Does 58cm seem like it'd be the right size for me in a Paddy Wagon? Might I get away with a 56cm? Will the different geometry affect what size Paddy Wagon frame would be better for me compared to the Dr Dew? If anyone who rides a Paddy Wagon could tell me your height and frame size, or just give any other advice it'd be much appreciated.

if you're setting it up fixed, you might want to check out some of the other stock track bikes in that same price range before settling on the paddy wagon. but that's just me, and personally i really don't like the geometry of the paddy wagon at all. but i'll swear by the stock mark v for the same price range.

any particular reason for the paddy wagon? i know you said you owned another kona, but anything else?

I'm in Australia and the options here are pretty limited for an off the peg fixie. ie. no IRO, no Bianchi Pista, no Raleigh, no Schwinn.

My inside leg measurement seems to be around 88cm too. I've never measured that before though, so I mightn't have measured properly.

Well, I've hooked up a deal on a 56cm Paddy Wagon and am pretty close to pushing the button when my pay goes through (that'll be in about 20 hours from now). I could get a 58 from this place, but after looking at the geometry specs on the Kona site it seems like the 56 might be better for me. It sucks not being able to test ride :-(

My other options at the moment are the Jamis Sputnik (which is more than $300AUD too pricey for me ATM, so I'd have to wait a couple of weeks to buy one of these), or the Allegro Track -- which is aparently pretty well the same as a Fuji Track. There's also the Cannondale Capo, but that's a fair bit more than I want to spend (about another $300AUD over the Sputnik).

So yeah, I'd love to hear from anyone who rides, or has ridden, a Paddy Wagon. I'd hate to buy the 56cm frame then later realise that I should've gotten the 58.

And Goldenskeleton, it's definitely not just 'because I've got another Kona' that I'm interested in the Paddy. As I said, the options are just a bit limited. What is it about the Paddy geometry that puts you off? You prefer a more aggresive track geometry?

Kona sizes their road bikes very strangely. I have a Sutra, and my friend a Smoke, and on each of them when I measure the ETT I always get 2 cm shorter than spec. All my other bikes the ETT is spot on. I'm sure this has something to do with the way Kona sizes their bikes, they seem to run small.

yeah i'd be looking at the one with the toptube measurement closest to your current bike (proviided that is correctly sized).

i am a bit taller and thinking of getting one myself... what i found odd was the 58 and the 60 have the same toptube length.

believe me, your decision to buy a paddy wagon is fine by me. and if you do own another kona and its a company you trust, that's a perfectly good reason to stick with 'em. their choice of tubing is good, the price is right and i like the paint color. other than that, i don't trust any of those components to hold up for too long and i personally like my frames with much tighter clearances.

I'm 6' and just test rode the 56 and the 58 trying to figure out what size to get. The 58 seemed a lot better. I would have gone with a 57, but they don't make one.

Your results might vary...

I'm 6'2, spent a significant amount of time on the 58cm. Save for some toe overlap, it was pretty awesome.

I'm 6' 2" too with 35.5" inseam (90 cm) and I was thinking of getting a 60cm, what do you think??

Thanks for the input folks. I've ended up ordering a 56. I was really torn between the 56 and 58, but the shop made it easier to decide since they didn't have a 58. One bonus with the 56 is that it has 170mm cranks rather than 175's according to Devo's review (cheers for that btw).
