are the sidi dominators soft on the bottom? from pics it looks like a hard plastic ridges which would click just as much as cleats.

plus, wouldn't you be ****ed as soon as they wore down?

doofo 02-16-07 06:10 PM

some sidis have replaceable soles do the dominators? research will tell

they are not soft on the bottom they are very hard

i cant imagine wearing them down as they are used primarily for riding

they dont click as much as clomp

I'm just speculating that if you walked around in them often enough that they might grind down into a regular road shoe

my sidi zetas (road) look like hell from walking around too much and on trails

doofo 02-16-07 06:15 PM

if that is a concern get the 6 instead of the 5

taken67 02-16-07 06:22 PM

Mine have replaceable soles (they aren't dominators), but they haven't worn down enough to replace them and I wear them to class, the bar, the movies, etc. I did manage to pull out one of the sole pieces once while inebriated, but it screwed back in no problem. Plus they make you look like you're from the future. Best shoes ever.

doofo 02-16-07 06:24 PM

AND they make you taller

(take note all you 51cm riders)

euphoria 02-16-07 06:25 PM

that's good to hear

I bought mine a year ago thinking it'd be a one-time investment, now it seems like I'll get another 2 years out of them max

but I'll be out of school by then and already making my millions

I rode a pair of Adidas "casual" shoes for a while... they were walkable, but after a couple of months I wore through the sole and the brass cleat wore out prematurely. They only had laces and were not very tight. Now it's Sidi's all the way for me. The only annoying thing is when you walk, people can hear you coming and you might impale your girlfriends roomates foot and/or your friends toe at a venue....

srs is bunk by the time you wear a sole out rubber tread and all it is two or three years down the road(everday use) nd trst me you will want new shoes at that point..

the dom 5 is a great shoe my buddy has had his dom 4s for years

marqueemoon 02-16-07 07:43 PM

I've gotten 3+ years of almost daily use out of Sidi Bullets. Now I have a pair of Dominators.

If it hasn't been pointed out already Sidis run small. They'll stretch a little but it takes forever.

Retem 02-16-07 08:12 PM

or just riding six hours or so in the rain mine fit perfect I am a 11.5 us and I wear a 46 sidi diadora nalini - italians are all the sameish -

megatron 02-16-07 08:43 PM

Remember to install your cleats ****ing tight. The first time I went for a long ride, i was going up a pretty steep hill onto a main road and couldnt unclip my left foot from the pedal because the cleat was just wiggling on the shoe. So i fell on my side and was still clipped in laying there like a ******. Had to unclip my right and hobble over with the bike still on my foot to the curb and take off the shoe and yank yank yank until i got the left shoe off the pedal and then limp home. Check your cleats before you ride too.

euphoria 02-16-07 08:48 PM

man, remember to buy your cleats in a shop so you can get a free fitting

Retem 02-16-07 08:48 PM

It's hard to pick out a shoe that fits correctly on line. I go to a big shop that has a large shoe selection.

actually from what i remember in the semester of geology that i took from a professor who went back and forth between teaching and looking for oil for big oil companies, more than 99% of fossil fuel comes from plant material. not surprising considering the amount of plant matter that comes and goes (think forests covering whole continents) compared to the size of animals.

Speaking of italian leather. I just found these while looking for parts on yellowjersey.. hawttt

the only problem with riding a slotted cleat in traffic is the fact you are always ducking to tighten and loosen your strap when you need to put a foot down

and you can't really walk on the cleat unless you are a duck man

That's something that doesn't get said enough, it's been this way for 15 years but many still associate pedal systems with road shoes. After you've acclimated to the stiff sole, they are like any other shoe when you've found the right pair. You can wear them allllllday
