SF Guardian Bike Article

If anyone's interested: there's an article about bike theft in the SF Guardian. I haven't gotten a chance to check it out yet, but it appears to be a state of the union of theft issues in the city.

its funny he spends all this time talking about theft and how horrible a world it is and how the theives and drugs are connected in the crime underworld

but what he doesn't say is how to lock your bike to make it safe and better yet that his garage door was open or unlocked and the theif walked right in and rode right out

sorry dude I feel for ya but lock it right or park it in your office apartment living room what have you

That was my sentiment "One cyclist told me how a thief stole his locked ride while he picked up a burrito from a taquería. He wasn't away from the bike for more than five minutes." 5 minutes? All it takes is 5 seconds if you don't lock up your bike, which I am going to assume is the case here (or he had a super crappy lock, but those don't count as locks).

Yeah, but there's a pretty wide range of "LOCKED" out there.

..i wish i had the 'Free Bob Jackson!' picture.

Even people that should have a clue sometimes screw up. A week ago or so I did my typical mini-u + cable lockup on my mtb, went inside somewhere and ate, and came out about an hour later. When I went to unlock my bike, I noticed that the mini-u was around the seat tube as usual, only in my haste/stupidity I had locked it around the seat tube ABOVE THE TOP TUBE.
