metallic vs. flake

quick question: is 'metallic finish' the same as a 'flake finish'?
thanks in advance...

onetwentyeight 02-20-07 01:43 PM

nope. one has a sheen to it, the other looks like it got doused in glitter.

kathrot 02-20-07 01:44 PM

fantastic. thank you as always!

Not all glossy paints are metallic. Metallics and flakes have reflective material inside the paint. The difference is in the size of this material. Metallics have lots of tiny pieces (dots), Flake has fewer but larger pieces. You can apply metallics in as few coats as a non-metallic, which is one reason you see metallics on lots of cars, but not flake.

Metal flake is the sh*t

The real question is does one match your chrome bag and anodized deep Vs more than the other?
