easy crank question

Ok--i have tried the search function and perhaps i am too drunk, but can someone please explain to me the difference b/t the sugino rd and xd crankset?

130 (rd) vs 110 (xd) bcd

skanking biker 02-20-07 10:28 PM

nother dumb one here: is 110 bcd a common chainring size?

skanking biker 02-20-07 10:32 PM

edit: oops--double post

john_and_off 02-20-07 10:38 PM

as i understand it, it is common with certain types of drivetrains, like triples perhaps? it is relatively easy to find both 110 bcd and 130 bcd chainrings, though 1/8" might be more difficult to come by in 110...

Yes. Simple (and not dumb) question, simple answer. It is the standard for "compact doubles" and was for all five-bolt MTB chainwheel sets up until just a few years ago. There are tons of 110 or 110/74 cransksets out there, so chainring availability should be just fine for the foreseeable future.

I have a 4 bolt 110 bcd crank,... i have one chainring.

Are you sure that's not a 104? There's no mention of it at all here, and Sheldon is usually pretty danged comprehensive...

jim-bob 02-21-07 12:11 PM

110 is totally my favorite BCD. No joke.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting a set of sugino XD's for my IRO SE.

isn't 110 standard for 3 piece BMX? in that case wouldn't 1/8 be pretty common?

i use 110 3/32 right now and have never had a problem finding chainrings.

It is, but very few 3-piece BMX cranks even use a spider anymore, let alone have a standard BCD. Thus, there aren't a lot of BMX chainrings that are 110. Luckily, Rocket Rings are super-cheap and always there.
