source for 26" F/F wheels?

does anybody make a 26" wheelset with a F/F hub that's relatively cheap? Or just a rear wheel, for that matter. I've seen a number of 700c wheels with what I'm looking for, but unless I'm missing something, nobody makes the same kind of wheelset in 26". Thanks.

What rear spacing?

dijos 02-22-07 11:16 AM

sorry, it's for a MTB, I'd have to measure, I'm guessing 135.

Rattlebag 02-22-07 11:28 AM

one-one might have something

Aeroplane 02-22-07 11:55 AM

I doubt you'll find many flip-flop wheels that are 135.

HOWEVER, a good (and super-cheap) way to do it is with a bolt-on cog on a disc rear hub. With a cassette cog and spacers, you have freewheel on one side, and the bolt-on is fixed on the other. No respacing, redishing, or any of that. However, you may have trouble finding a disc rear wheel that is compatible with rim brakes.

iro does.

Surly 135mm flipflop. Wonderfully delicious hub.

Whats wth all the fixed mtbs all of a sudden appearing? I think the only option I hade when I did my first one 3 years ago was the fixxer, which I wish I still had. Now there are 3-4 posts today about them.

They sell the Surly as a complete wheel? If we are talking just 135 f/f hubs, the kogswell set at Harris is a great deal too, $80 for a hubset. Also, on-one has a 135 fixed/fixed hub.

But if you are talking a complete wheel, I still say a disc rear wheel is the way to go. Plenty to choose from and super-cheap in comparison.

Harris no longer has any of the kogswell set. I bought the surly hub and had a wheel built. Don't know about a complete wheel.

but for some bizzare reason he wants fixed/fixed. Are there any fixed/disk hubs available?

I think you are going to have to buy a onone hub and build from there. If this is an mtb wheel just forget about the second fixed cog you'll be better off with a freewheel anyway.

Phils 135mm fixed disc is $279 for the hub.

It looks like QBP only sells free/free surly wheels, I couldn't find any with the fixed/free prebuilt.

I thought he meant just flip-flop. On-One and Kogswell (and of course Phil Wood) are the only ones I can think of for fixed-fixed.

jim-bob 02-23-07 01:05 PM

There's always the possibility of throwing a dingle cog onto a single-fixed hub.

Also, yeah, F/F is totally overloaded. Flip-flop? Fixed/fixed? FW/FW?

Fixed/Free?

dijos 02-23-07 01:29 PM

Sorry, Fixed/free or Flip Flop. Not Fixed/Fixed.

jim-bob 02-23-07 01:35 PM

I built my 26" fixed wheel out of an old sansin track hub and just respaced it, but that was before there were all these SS disc hubs on the market.

If I were to do it again, I'd get myself a nashbar cassette disc hub and bolt a cog to the disc side.

Of course, I do enjoy the cheesy looks of the hub I'm currently using :
