Gusset Singlespeed
So I want a quick, easy, and cheap way to make my Hardrock singlespeed. So far i have seen good reviews on the Gussett singlespeed conversion. However, Im a bit confused on how it works. Do I just take off the cassette, and simply put the spacers/cog in its place?
Is it a nessecity to havea chain tensioner because the transtition trail or park doesnt use one.
if you have vert dropouts, definately use a tensioner. they prob don't include one in the kit because they assume you have the proper dropouts or an eccentric bb.
I have used the gusset and it worked fine for me but if for some reason you need adjustability in your chainline the gusset is not the best one out there. there are some other spacer kits out there that use a bunch of spacers so you have chainline adjustability with the gusset you only have two positions to run the chainline at and also you are stuck using a thin sproket which can in theory screw up your freehub
Alright, thanks for the input. What would be some other choices to look at?
endless bike co. makes one-25$
they make sprokets too... im not sure although if you look around i'm sure you will find others as well if you have vertical dropouts you can either try to run a magic gear(click here for info on how to calculate) or you can use a chain tensioner if you do I have heard that the rennen rollenlager is one of the best out there. I have used the surly chain tensioner and it works just fine though |
Ok i'll look around, thanks. One more question, however. How do I get setup with just one chainring up front instead of two? I've seen singlespeed-type chainrings on price point, but does that meani can just ditch both of my current chain rings, and put it on normally?
Heres and example: http://pricepoint.com/detail/13874-0...-Chainring.htm |
ya but you will need single stack chainring bolts which should be real cheap ~5$ a set or so or you can put on a bashguard instead of the outer ring
Well thats the thing, I have 2 rings, and I already took off the 42 big ring, so now i havea 32 and a 22. What would i need to just have a 32 and a bashguard?
what cranks are you running?
Not great ones, Truvativ Blaze, they come stock with the hardrock. They are 4arm.
well how is your middle ring not flopping all over the place if you largest ring is not on there anymore?
if it is not able to move around you probably have singlestack bolts already check your PM |
yeah i got the single bolts already when i didn't know how to work on my bike a while back i took it in to get the 3rd ring taken off. Minutes ago i just ordered the e.thirteen STS Chainguide, and i'm low on cash now(high school student) so if you havent sold the gussett by then, ill send you a message. But in better news, the e. thirteen will be awesome, Im finally gonna ditch the front derallieur (sp?) and just have one ring up fro.
