Painted saddles
Anyone here ever paint a saddle? Well, I had this saddle sitting around and a wild hair and painted it.
Ride quality is debatable at this point but the paint is holding up.
Props to Frida Khalo, the Aboriginals, and Howard Finster for the inspiration.

Yeah, i hope you don't plan on riding on it. Seems to me like you would be ruining your art work. But good job. I'm all about recycling old stuff you don't deem as usable anymore into artwork. Tmax, where do you live? I have a group of friends in Philly that would be interested in seeing more of this.

There are others in philly that would be interested in seeing it. Consider submitting it here You can click on the gallery at the top of the page and see works from past shows. The sale of these pieces at auction goes to benefit The Neighborhood Bike Works, a youth development program, and the parent organization of our west philly bike co-op.

Snap Ricky, I didn't know you guys did bike art.
You and I might have to hang out in my basement next week.
I have a lot of stuff deemed unworthy of riding.

I am riding this saddle. The saddle is very porous and the enamel soaked in nicely then I satin clear coated on top. It will be like a pair of old shoes and wear nicely I think. Then I'll paint again if I need to.
Neighborhood Bikes and the "parts" raid is a worthy and noble mission. I'll get on the mailing list for upcoming events.
Way down south in Alabama...jg

Tmax1,
you got it spot on. I have painted several saddles and the key is the clearcoat. I had one on my MTB that was put through hell and back and looked good after 2 years. Another trick is to get some deglazing liquid for leather that will remove the sealers on the original finish...the paint grabs on real solid then.

hello
I've dyed Brooks saddles, going from light to dark, using hair dye. I had a couple of honey colored saddles and dyed them dark brown. Color is permanent and doesn't rub off.
