Traveling to Atlanta, Suggestions:

I am traveling to ATL today till Sunday to visit my friends, get tattooed and go to her art show.
Are there any bike shops to check out, cool places to eat, good bars, or gallery shows to see?
Thanks!

Go to Buckhead and Little Five Points. L5P has a place called Outback bikes which is pretty cool. A while back I bought socks that said "Police" on the cuf, and "got donuts" on the bottom. the best tatoo artist in ATL is in L5P as well.
Def. go to the Atlanta Gardens. Admission is 5 or 10 dollars and you can get lost in all the splendor.
Buckhead also has a number of bike shops, mostly catering to the elite roadie crowd, meaning they have geat used parts bins.

97 estoria is probably your speed as far as bars go but I'm sick of packed smoky places so I'm probably a year or two out of the loop.

There isn't any bikeshop in town I would go to without having a specific need in mind and probably calling ahead.

Atlanta's not that bad Kyle...ok, yeah, never mind.

SKIP BUCKHEAD for the love of God. Don't go anywhere near Buckhead. Estoria is a pretty cool bar, so is the The Local. Definitely check out SOPO in East Atlanta if you get the chance--our bike coop is pretty darn cool.

I'm soon moving to ATL for school. I keep hearing it's a hellish town to ride. I'm going to have a pretty good commute to school. What do I have to look forward to?

Bombing Peachtree on Friday nights. It's so much fun, seriously.

You'll get used to the traffic & griping about it becomes ritual. Most people don't get run off the road as much as I do, apparently I'm a target for motorized vehicles.

SCAD and moving from Gainesville, FL. It's a college town so I'm used to aggressive drunk drivers at pretty much all times of the day.

suggestion:go eat at power plant, it's all vegan, and tell me what you think.

when I went, it was good, but people say it sucks.

Other than atlanta, I didn't like much about georgia. And I really didn't like much of atlanta.

Power Plant is ok. not awesome. Maybe worth the experience.
Green Sprout is great. Mostly vegan chinese.
Soul Vegetarian is amazing as well. You have to try to mac and cheese and the country fried steak.

I lived and rode in ATL for a few years.
IMO, theyre totally embracing their car addiction and most people could care less about someone on a bike.
Its probably the SUV capital of the south.

I've been in the buckhead area of atlanta for 2 weeks now and i would suggest not coming here, little 5 points is a good place to hang out at . Lennys Bar is a chill place and the Drunken Unicorn has some good shows and a good bar. Deerhunter is actually playing there tonight.

From my expereince here the riding is pretty good, drivers in buckhead couldn't give a s h i t about you, but when your in midtown everybody is a little more aware.

Well put.

Most of the conversations in the shops around here start with "Have you got..." and end with "No, but I can order it..."

So can I.

BTW, the weather is freakin gorgeous today and should be this weekend.

ya'll are depressing me. When I was last in ATL to see Built to Spill I actually met a few people that ride with Power Mustache or w/e it was called. Seemed like good kids. I was really surprised to not see one fix in a group of six or seven, though.

I think we're allowed to be harsh b/c we live here. I guess its not all that horrible of a place. We're working on it.
Odd that you found all six of the geared riders in one place. Most people here are WAY too cool to be seen with a freewheel and shifters.

Oh word? Next time I'm down, I'll come check it out. I come down every now and then for certain holidays to see family I don't know.

The amount of cars/suv's, and the ****bags that own and drive them is the most depressing thing in the entire world. It really jaded me on how I feel about the south as a whole because of my experiences with atlanta.

I love you almost as much as I love my gears when I'm spinning up Clifton after work on a Friday (*&^%ing hill...).

FasterMustache kids are awesome...not like I'm biased or anything...and almost everyone rides fixed. I'm one of the few left with a dérailleur. Fixed gear is the new SUV to the young and the hip in ATL.
