My family is from there. It could be 70-100 degrees and 60-90% humidity. That part of the midwest can have pretty variable weather. As for terrain, the beginning and ends of the routes are the only really hilly sections as you go through the Missouri and Mississippi river valleys.
I've lived nearby but never did RAGBRAI. What do people think of an official BF SSFG group for this summers ride? I wouldn't do the ride alone, but I think a whole swarm of fixies would be spectacular. Especially if I have my mobile stereo built by then. :P |
I've ridden RAGBRAI 16 times, the first in '82 and the last in 2002. Do it, you'll like it. I've always ridden it on geared bikes, but I've seen lots of single speeds and fixies out there, so no worries.
The IOWAn's will take care of you. Your ride will be good! If you're a cyclist, RAGBRAI is not to be missed. After you ride it, you will remember it always, talk about it lots, and probably try to figure a way to go back. Rick / OCRR |
I just heard about RABGRAI yesterday. If I had known earlier, I prob would have invested some time in it/sign up.

Oops, just realized you can still register for it. Hmmmm...

do they carry your gear? or do to carry all your own clothes/**** like that?
id be willing to do it if i can organize time off work and a plane ticket (or go big, and ride there, then do it, then ride home.... which sounds more fun) |
I've done RAGBRAI and other similar rides fixed, ss, and geared. Truthfully riding geared is more fun. Riding fixed after a few days get to be annoying when 90 miles in you hit a steep up/downhill or you just want to coast for a bit. So I'd say if you have the option take a geared bike, or switch your fixie ss.
