Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

at least there's still a drop, i.e., not the typical risers leveled with an angled stem.

Not to poke a hole in your argument, but there are certain hand positions that you can only get with a riser stem and drop bars. Anything a track stem with risers can do, a normal stem with a flat bar can do just as well. Assuming of course you don't normally ride in that stupid uncomfortable drop right next to the stem.

At least with the + stem and drop you have a flat at the top level.... where as with a - quill and risers..um .. not even close.

Nice attempt at covering your butt against viable retaliation. Yes I have drops on some of my bikes and risers on others because both designs allow a change of hand and therefore body positions to varying degrees.... and although you're apparently fragile or can't handle riding in the drop next to the stem it's a refreshing change for me on my rides. Also, a normal stem with a flat bar does not offer the same hand positions as a neg stem with risers regardless of what you might think. But then I suppose people with your limited sight and narrow judgement fish for affirmations from your peers by poking fun of other people and their preferences while keeping your fingers crossed in hopes that "gang mentality" will prevail in your favor.

I'm amazed at how many people here feel justified in making fun of others. For me to idly stand by is just as bad as joining in these absurd judgemental posts... so you bet I'm going to say something.

The point being that it doesn't matter if a drop has a flat at the top level and a riser does not. If the person was looking for the characteristics of a drop I'm sure he would have chosen one but apparently that's not what he wanted. What he decided to do was his preference and not subject to your approval. For you to think that you know the motivation behind his actions or that you should know better than he as to what his preference is, is absolutely ridiculous. You positively have no basis for your judgmental arguments no matter how you try to justify it.
