Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? blah blah ... blahblahblah. There is no judgment of his motivations by me.. I'm judging the jackassery of one step down to take two steps up is all. Decaf baby, decaf. I'm fully aware that it's not subject to my approval, he can build it however he wants. Hey maybe all he had was a quill stem for all I know.. It was posted and I made a comment on the silliness of a stem pointing down to hold a riser bar. Lighten up Bottom Feeder, read the thread title.

What's the matter kitten... you upset?

You pointed nothing out that was remotely valid.

I've been having a little trouble following this argument, but was that whole "what's with positive stems and drops" thing a joke?

Yes it certainly was meant as a joke. It was nothing but a reversal of the supposed 'irony' of negative stem and risers.

that looks like a bike i pulled up to on the street last year

(im sitting on my marin mount vision) and i look at him and at the disk, ask him what its for and he said "oh i race track on it"... i got confused, and decided i would drop him in the next block (which i did... he didnt know how to use gears...... ) and now of course i know gears arnt for the track...

Also, a normal stem with a flat bar does not offer the same hand positions as a neg stem with risers regardless of what you might think. I'm amazed at how many people here feel justified in making fun of others. For me to idly stand by is just as bad as joining in these absurd judgemental posts... so you bet I'm going to say something.
I see lots of words, but it's not saying anything.

Care to re-post after you've edited all the 'harrumph, sirrah, nay!' talk?

Has this been mentioned yet? The jackass on Velospace converting downtube shifter levers into brake levers? I think that it is a joke but I cannot tell anymore these days..... https://velospace.org/node/6419

Oh, it's definitely jackass. That guy has been selling single speed conversions on Denver craigslist with those shifter levers. Sometimes even with only a front brake. I could maybe see using those on a fixed gear, but they are definitely not feasible for a freewheel.

That's a fixie E-brake LOL. (God... maybe I'm the only one laughing out loud at this... HAHAhahahaha)

Hmm... This one looks like you could get enough leverage pushing down on it for it to actually work:
