I know it's hard, but someone ought to tell your friend he's color blind.

wow.

Still probably clocks in around 35 pounds.

I'd invest another $20 into an old frame/fork that is 10 pounds lighter.

Go for it, enlighten me as to why that's not "an ugly workaround for not wanting a stem that points downwards". Tell me what the comparative advantage of mounting the bars to the fork would be. Here's your chance to not look like a bike snob poseur and show us you know something, anything at all
I'll reply again but with kid gloves because apparently my last post was too harsh for Min's standards

Look at the bike. Look at the people riding the bike in the Velospace page. It is a team pursuit bike. A drop stem and deep drop track bars would not achieve the position needed for a team pursuit race. Compare deep drop stem and deep drop track bars with modern pursuit bars. they are not about being just low, it's about being forward as well. With this you get both in a sustainable position. Track bars and a drop stem are more apt for sprints. This bike was a change in design of pursuit bikes leading to modern pursuit bikes and specifically bars.

so pack away that know it all attitude and realize there are parts of the cycling world about which you have no idea.

I would ride it, but only if I was going really fast so the haters' caustic words would be drowned out by the wind rushing over the fairing.

Those pedalmafia guys are so insane. They're like weight weenies or custom steel bike affectionatos (sp?)...but for crazy high end track stuff mostly only purchased for the look and with little functional role.

Like that guy's orange Tange bike, that thing was insane too.

my main concern is the one piece crank. the crank/chainring are not meant to hold up to the sorts of pressures that your friend will probably put on it.

Pair that ridiculously steep angled seat with the >TIGHT< pants that dem cool kids wear and you get some <RAD> saddle sores.

The arm that holds the saddle flexes with the weight of the rider, thus leveling out the saddle.
