Redline 925 (?)

So, i've been doing my research into entry singlespeeds/fixies, etc, and I've decided that I definitely want the flip/flop option to ease into the fixie and I definitely want steel, so I'm probably going with the Redline 925. Any body have any major objections/unforeseen troubles with the 925?

Also, I'm wondering about sizing because I've heard it rides kinda big. I'm 5'10 so I'd probably normally ride a 56cm (i've only ridden mtb's before so i don't really know) but i've heard people as big as 6' ride the 54 in this model. Anyone have any idea?

Nice bike, nice features, pretty good price. I would suggest buying this bike from a shop more than any other entry level FG/SS, as you will need to decide if you like the 'stache bars and then get a real fit job for them. If you don't like them most shops will swap them for free, which will save you more money than buying online will.

Yeah, def going to go with the LBS for that exact reason. Not sure if i want to go with the stache's or switch out to bullhorns or what. Then again, it's my first road bike so almost anything is going to feel a bit strange compared to straight bars.

additionally, a good LBS will true your wheels after you ride them and break them in. i've heard a couple things about the build on these wheelings leaving a bit to be desired, so that added bit of service from the LBS would be nice.

that said, i think the 9-2-5 is a hot little item, well-aimed with appropriate specs.

I like my Redline 9-2-5.

Here's a short list of things I really like about it in no particular order: nice fenders are stock, formula hubs, and paint job.

I would've preferred cantilever brakes because it makes getting the tires in and out easier, and I think they're more powerful than road calipers. I'm 5'11", and I have a 54cm. It's a little small, but it's not so small that it's a problem. The moustache bars are a mixed bag for me. They offer a decent number of hand positions, but you can't get get down and aerodynamic with them that easily, so I like them more than risers and flat bars. I think drops are better though.

It's a great deal. If you haven't already, you should also look at the Bianchi San Jose and IRO Rob Roy. Those are also steel and they come with flip flop hubs.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, also looked at the San Jose and the Rob Roy. I like all three for the same reasons- steel frames, clearance for a variety of tire types, cyclocross geometry, etc... Maybe i'm just drawn to the 925 by the stache bars.

Search? Internets?

retem is suggesting you do a search of the forums since this bike has been talked about before

see if you can ride a ss cross with drops to compare to the 925 bar

Right, thanks, I searched the forums and saw only one comment on the sizing issue and only one solid negative comment (on the odd rear hub sizing), etc, so i figured I'd try to pull some more out.

And yeah, i hope to try a variety of handlebar types and decide if I want to swap out the mustaches.

I also did the "ease into fixed" method, and I don't think you need to worry about it. I never use my freewheel any more. Just put the cog on and go. This certainly shouldn't dictate your choice of bike.
