I would transform my old fuji touring bike into a 1x6 with full fenders. Not really a race bike, but awesome on the commute and I've won some stuff on it as a fixie.

I don't *actually* have a large stable, but I've rotated through quite a few in recent years and I do dream of a very big garage
For one bike, my Kogswell P/R, easy choice. It's the closest to a true "all-rounder" that I've ridden. Cargo, touring, on-road, off-road, fixed, geared.

I will keep my conversion - it is better in my standard commute and not much worse in the city than any of my track bikes. I might replace it with the currently_under_construction bike if it comes up to my expectations.

I would keep my mid 90s mbt. It has a nice lugged steal frame, takes racks well if I need to load up, has horizontal dropouts so I would prob build up a second rear wheel fixed / free, even though it's ridgid I find for most off road we have here in the south of Uk I can keep up with most people. So that bike plus one rear wheel and two sets of tyres would give me a tourer, a fixed gear, a single speed and a mountain bike.

I'd sell the bikes I have and get a titanium singlespeed cross bike with S&S couplers and a front brake.

Like the rest of the crowd, I would probably take some kind
of geared cross bike, possibly a Surly for the horizontal drop-
outs. It definitely seems like the most versatile option.

It'd be my geared cyclocross bike. it's the most versatile bike I own, but I really wouldn't want to be without my track bike, and EVERYONE needs a beater, especially for winter riding. So really 3 is my minimum, and I'm down to 3 now.

out of practicality i would have to say my cross check because i could truly to everything with it, and have, but in reality i would probably keep my SS 29er. i would be a very unhappy person if i couldnt rip it up off road on the 29er.

I hate to say it, but because of sheer utility I'd probably keep the 3-speed first gen IRO Mark V. I love, LOVE my other bikes, but the 3-speed IRO is so much more practical for everything, like going to the store, riding in the rain, putting bigger tires and riding in the dirt, fenders, racks, trailers, etc. Plus, it's like the indestructible bike, hit by a toyota tundra and the thing is still straight as the day I got it.
If I didn't have to worry about anything like utility, I'd ditch everything and keep the new bike, it is perfection by way of steel and carbon-fiber.

if i could only keep one bike in my entire stable, it'd have to be the most functional one of them all - my trials bike, which, incidentally, is fixed.

i think a lot about the ultimate one bike. one idea is a steel(stainless perhaps?) roadframe geometry with campy 1010b dropouts and ss couplers. possibly room for 28mm tires and disc tabs. basically a custom made conversion. you could do almost anything with something like that.
make it fit perfectly, with some nice lugs or maybe fillet brazed with a matching stem, i think i'd be good.
