Question About wheels
Ok I found a old frame that I think will will be able to pick up for free tomorrow.(Trashpile bike) Its an older shiwnn sprint. Right now I have gotten my GF to commute to school on a mountain bike on a pretty regular basis(reads: not raining) She will ride through the winter and what not and seems to like it. I have discovered that she only uses 1 of her 24 possible gear combinations. So once i found this frame which should fit her perfect I am thinking of making her a SS speed bike. I don't think she would like a FG bike. The bike currently has 27 Inch wheels on it. My question is:
Can I thread a SS freewheel hub Like this: http://harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?ID=905 to a wheel like this: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/ebi...ms/004-we8691? That says that it has a formula freewheel hub. I know thats a crappy whee, I just don't have the money to drop right now and want to make sure she will use it before I get something nicer. Any other ideas? |
Yessir, that will work just fine.

The cheapest way would be to go to your LBS or local bike graveyard and find a freewheel rear wheel. You'll still have to respace and redish, but it shouldn't be any harder than that Formula one. |
I would suggest asking her, before just springing it on her. Unless you want to use it as a spare.

Thanks for your comments. She knows all about this and said she would really like this. Its not really weather or not she would want it or not, its weather or not she will use it haha. As for gearing i figure i will just make it one or two steps harder then what she was using on the mntbike!
