I don't see alot of single cranksets out their for road bikes. I've seen alot more MTB single speed cranksets, will these work fine to buiild up a oldroad bike to make it a fixie? I realize I could also get spacers and adjust the chainring also on a double crankset. That just does not look as clean though :)

Track cranks are available but they are expensive and used a 144BCD chainring. I think most road fix conversions go with a road crankset with one chainring and a set of single ring stack bolts. If you are building a new ride, that will probably be your cheapest option. But if I were building a really nice fix ride, I'd go whole hog as use either the DuraAce, Campy, or Sugino75 track crankset.

Any standard square taper (for instance) crank will work on any standard square taper bb OF APPROPRIATE LENGTH (Campy square taper is not standard.). So if your bb spindle is long enough for a triple you can put a mtb crank on it. I got a nice single bmx crank of appropriate length on ebay for a reasonable price. If you want to use your double road crank with a single chainring and clean up the look you can put a cyclocross chainguard ring on the outer position. I keep thinking about doing this, but I just haven't decided to spend the money for cosmetics. If you feel comfortable working metal and have the inclination you could probably take a worn out 52T chainring and cut it down to appropriate diameter for use as a chainguard with a smaller chainwheel. It just needs to be a few millimeters larger than the chainring.

Thanx for the info RainmanP. I just saw the T.A. CycloTourist crankset at Sheldon brown's web site it is a beauty but $225. Don't think I'll spend that much money, but is nice to look at.
