Fixed gear cyclocross options
 

Does anyone know of any cyclocross frames with derailer hangers that can be easily run as fixed gears besides the cross check? Has anyone managed to make a Bianchi Volpe/Castro Valley or a Kona Jake into a fixed gear?

i think there's one by voodoo called the wazoo. it has a sliding vertical dropouts with disc tabs.

the bianchi san jose is set up perfect for that.

it doesn't have a deraileur hanger

people are saying the surly karate monkey is a bit heavy. other than that i'd consider that as an option. check out 12xu's pictures of his in the picture thread.

The IRO Rob Roy is a single speed cyclocross. I'm sure Tony could throw a fixed wheel on that thing.

Also my IRO Mark V can handle 32C cyclocross tires just fine.

good point, i forgot it doesn't have a hanger (and my wifes is hanging in the other room!) .

I was strongly considered the volpe when I got my crosscheck. In the end the cost of the complete bike with all the low end shifty bits I had no use for(I had nicer stuff already that I wanted to use) made me decide against it.

you could always drill the bb of any non-geared cx bike though and use some bolt on cable stops and a axle hanger.

I'd be keen to find a source for bolt on cable stops (for downtubes and/or stays). In the past three weeks I have vistited almost 20 LBSs and found none. Do you know of anyone that still makes them? Or has any for sale?

The karate monkey has mountain bike geometry, so it's pretty difficult to run it as a genuine cross bike. I've seen people do it, with 50mm stems and dropbars, but its a very ugly solution with a few obvious tradeoffs.
