Chain Cleaning Rituals
 

I searched the forums and all I could find was "clean and lube your chain!" whenever someone had noise.

What process do you guys go through to clean your chain?

pedros ice wax. put it on your chain and let dry. use some sort of lint free cloth and wipe it clean = slick as snot.

I wipe my chain down, if it's real grimey, I hit it with a nylon brush.
Then I apply rock"n"Roll lube liberally. Ride around the block 2-3 times, then come back and wipe the chain down with a paper towel or a any lint free rag.

I just use the regular Rock Gold lube, the "Hardcore" road formula didn't work as well for me. I've heard the "Extreme" is great, but I have a ton of the gold right now.

haha, sorry about that. Like I said I searched the forums, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Mod, you can delete this thread if you would like to.

White lightning- self cleaning You have to relube 2x a week, but your chain is always clean to the touch on the outside, nice and lubed on the inside. Plus, it "squooshes" out the dirt and grime from inside the link. I don't pay much for it though.

In terms of absolute buttery smoothness I stick with prolink.

I tried cleaning my chain by submerging it in a jar of solvent as recommended in that 10 day old thread, and I'm a convert. **** detergent-based degreasers, they just do not work anywhere near as well.

The city puts volcanic cinder down for traction on ice, and when it rains the wet cinder goes up into my chain and turns into a gritty mess on any lube I use other than the waxy ones (and I have my doubts about the waxy ones).

I take my chain off and spray it with WD-40 as a solvent.

After it soaks for awhile, I wash it in my kitchen sink with soap and hot water.

Sometimes I let it soak for awhile in the hot soapy water.

Then I spray it a again with the WD-40 to displace the water, wipe it down very thoroughly with paper towels, and lube it with whatever seems like the right lube at the time.

In the absence of rain and cinder, I don't clean or lube my chain.
It can go all summer without any more than a wipedown.
