Sandals + clips ?
 

Forgive what may seem like a pointless question, but I'm busy procrastinating instead of writing a lab report... Decided to post it here because this forum probably has the most experience with the topic at hand.

It started raining a couple hours ago and I'm now wondering what footwear I will choose tomorrow morning when I need to ride to campus in the rain. Sandals, but the burning question is: what kind?

"flip-flop" style or Tevas? I'm mildly aware of the fact that Tevas are no longer "in", but I could give a **** what's "in" or "out" - which one's going to work better when riding with clips and straps?

Inquiring minds want to know!

hey mac you are aware that shimano and a couple other brands make spd compatible sandals these will work infinitly better for ya trust me

Agreed, but I like the clips and straps b/c I can ride normal shoes to work or school (both less than 5 miles) when it's not raining.

I'm not going to change pedals every time it rains so that I can run an spd sandal. Need justification?

• buy pedals
• buy sandals
  
• two minutes spent switching pedals that I would rather spend sleeping
  
• the big one - constant swaping of pedals will eventually wear / strip the crankarm threads

Versus:

• put on flip-flops or tevas (that I already own)
• ride to class

So...

clips and straps are inferior I say inferior spend a little money on some mtb shoes some cheap spds and sandals

You're dead to me, man.

I have spd's on four (count 'em: 4) other bikes, a pair of road shoes and mtb shoes. If I wanted clipless on my commuter, I'd have them. I don't want them on this bike for any number of reasons I don't need to go into in this thread. Is that ok with you?

Is it a rule in this forum that you're not allowed to simply answer the OP's question, you must demonstrate that you are smarter than them in all ways?

I rode just last week in Tevas/Clips. I didn't have the strap tight enough on one foot. Thanks to traffic, and a pot hold I couldn't miss, the nail on my right big toe is to the quick.

My next pair of Tevas are going to be the Dozers.

nah I understand I was just stating my opinion and crocs are better than getting you toses cut up by the metal clips that is if your using metal clips or merrill makes some really nice sandal like hiking shoes that are mesh and stuff they breath and are super comfy they would work well too

personally, i'd probably never ride with sandals on my feet, but why don't you just put on whatever sandals you prefer? flip-flops seem like kind of a stupid idea because they will either fly off of your feet or you will hurt your feet unless you have a brake on your bike. and if you have a brake on your bike, why not just put some flat pedals on and then you can ride whatever type of footwear you want anytime you want.

Those ones may be, but the Lake's are a thing of beauty and look more like a teva. I wore mine for two years before a strap blew out. Nashbar's are likely next because apparently the sole is a little stiffer. Sandals are the cats ass.

Sac, if you're determined to wear sandals with clips and straps, get something that'll stay on your feet, like a teva, chaco etc. etc. I can't imagine it being very comfy, but the advantage of using more of a hiking sandal over a flip/flop is that it may provide more toe protection by immobilizing your foot more so fore and aft than a slip on would and some have more of an upturned sole at the toe to avoid stubbage. On the other hand, straps may cinch better on your bare foot than over a sandal strap apparatus.

Its actually a really expensive combination, but it would rock if you put clips and straps on the quill pedals. I may do it one day. They sell make the adaptors seperately, so if you have five bikes or whatever you can put whatever pedals you want on whatever bike. whatever!

i ride to class in birkenstock sandals all the time. just make sure your toes aren't going over the front edge of whichever sandal you choose, otherwise they'll get all cut up from the front of the clip (not a great deal of fun).
