Basso Loto mods
I have a late 80s Basso Loto and I want to outfit it with everything Campy. I already have a Campy Chorus headset. the rest of the parts on it are nice, but i really want it all campy. no breaks though. do you think this is why and how much do you think it might cost.
any suggestions? thanks. ryan also, here is a blury pic. sorry for the poor quality. http://velospace.org/node/2533 |

grrr at that paint job. I wish I could find new decals for my basso.
|
I would not expect campy to break.

campy campy campy campy campy campy

i have a suggestion: put gears on that bike or else. no whining cry baby excuses about how you love mommy and she told you fixed gears help you win friends and influence people.
also, your saddle is pointing down too far. it's more than likely going to put too much pressure on your wrists. |

Fix your saddle and if necessary raise your bars. Don't waste your money replacing perfectly good stuff with stuff of a different brand just because. It possibly make some sort of sense if you have an old track bike and want to restore it to it's orginal condition but any sort of brand replacement is just stupid on a conversion of any bike from the 80's or newer. I love campy for their nice shifty stuff but wasting money on replacing non-campy with campy on a conversion is just that... A huge ****ing waste of your time and money. Don't file off the braze on's either. possible decals for nekura |

I think IRO cranks are just as bling as Campy ones, seriously. $80 or $380, you know? The Campy bottom brackets I've had are super smooth and maybe worth the extra bit of money, but I wouldn't be going out of my way to get one unless you found a sweet deal...I'm into Italian frames and whatever stuff they come with is usually what I keep (most of the time Campy, but definitely not the selling point). Did the Basso come with blasphemous Italian brand parts by Gipiemme? Absolutely nothing wrong with that stuff. |

I don't have an IRO, or spoke cards. 0 for 2. Awesome.

The one sentence was wrong. It should have read "Is this wise" not "Is this why". Anyway I fixed the saddle and thanks for all the suggestions. The reason I was looking into campy was because I like their stuff and I thought it would be nice to have an all italian bike.
As for this: "i have a suggestion: put gears on that bike or else. no whining cry baby excuses about how you love mommy and she told you fixed gears help you win friends and influence people." I love fixed gears and not because its a fad or whatever. I love that basso from and if anyone thinks its wrong to convert it to fixed then sorry but its my bike that i paid for and put together with my own sweat and money. |

road bike conversions rule!
never had track bike envy in the years i've ridden my 80's paramount fixed. plus i have mounts for water bottles... how practical. |
if he goes all campy, he could just swap them all onto an italian track frame later, so why not? but i agree, don't file off the braze ons!
|
word. i won't file off the braze ons.
I Like Peeing: do you go on the pretzel runs or critical mass? maybe i'll see you around. |
Hmmm... I've got an '85, so those might work. I'm definitely going to look them up. Thank you! =D
|
if you don't wanna dump $$$ into track parts, you can get a veloce BB pretty cheap, and use campy road cranks- STRADA, c-record, etc, and campy road pedals. that will save you tons of cash. and you can use them if you convert it back to geared too. ebay!
