****ing cranks

so i'm taking everything off of my frame so i can paint it and the cranks will not come off of the spindles. Obviously I took the screws out but it seems like they'r just welded on. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

If you're going to ride your bike to get the crank puller, please replace your crank bolts.

Well, you could try riding the bike without the crank bolts, and you might not need the crank puller after all. The second crank arm could be tough to get once the first was off though. Especially if it's the drive side.

Then you'd likely need a new crankset. This is a good way to round the square taper on any aluminum crankset and is usually reserved for arms with stripped threads.

If you're really careful, you can fulcrum them off with a 2x4, but you do risk damage.. there's some site somewhere on how to do this.

Keep in mind that a crank puller will run you $15-$25, and that they're really the best option. I've used mine many times since I bought it.

crank pullers are good to have, just dont be too drunk to not take the washer out. done that
